
Prince George’s County, MD may cover the cost of travel for residents to receive gender-change surgeries.
The county’s LGBTQIA+ Task Force is asking the county council to approve health department grants that would cover “uncovered” services, including “expensive travel to [gender] surgeons for visits for low-income residents.”
The task force also wants to create a mobile “gender-affirming health unit” that will bring hormone therapy and other gender-related services directly to your door.
Prince George’s County Councilwoman Krystal Oriadha says the unit would also distribute chest binders, which are used to flatten the chest and appear more masculine.
Prince George’s County faced a budget deficit of $130-$170 million in Fiscal Year 2026. The county government blamed the shortfall in part on mass federal worker layoffs by the Trump administration.
