A new abortion business in Chicago, named Hope Clinic, has opened its doors, and will be killing babies in abortions up to approximately 34 weeks of pregnancy. The state allows abortions up to birth.
The new abortion center is the only standalone facility in the Midwest to end the lives of babies in third-trimester abortions, a practice pro-life leaders describe as “particularly abhorrent” due to the advanced development of the unborn child.
The timeframe of 34 weeks is well after babies are viable.
Pro-life activists point to medical advancements, noting that babies born as early as 24 weeks can survive with modern interventions. The world record for the youngest surviving premature infant is 21 weeks and 1 day, underscoring the viability of babies at stages who will be killed by Hope Clinic.

The abortion center’s opening comes as Illinois solidifies its role as an abortion hub following the 2022 overturn of Roe v. Wade. Supported by Governor JB Pritzker and the state’s attorney general, Hope Clinic aims to sell abortions to women from across the country, particularly those with pro-life laws in neighboring states.
Mary Kate Zander, president of Illinois Right to Life, was shocked but not surprised by the news.
“It is a heinous reality that Hope Clinic (yes, that Hope Clinic – the one with a location down in Granite City and the infamous billboard) is opening a new location in Chicago where they’ll be performing third trimester abortion,” she said. “What has me shocked – and I mean shocked – is how honest this article is.”
Zander explains that she was contacted by the author about the news of the late-term abortion business opening in her state.
Two weeks ago, Angie Leventis (the Tribune’s abortion beat reporter) contacted me to share that she was working on this article. She had seen that Hope Clinic was openly advertising third trimester abortions even though elective late term abortions are against the law in Illinois. She was waiting to receive clarification from them, but wanted my thoughts.
Angie and I had what I felt was a very productive conversation. I told her, first and foremost, that people need to know that “elective” third trimester abortions are already happening in Illinois. The Reproductive Health Act (RHA) was written to be intentionally vague – leaving the door open for late term abortions that can be justified by almost any circumstance, while eliminating the label “elective” so as to stay off the public’s radar.
I could tell Angie was hearing what I was saying.
I went on to tell her that the public also needs to know that the state’s definition of “viability” – 26 weeks or whenever a medical doctor considers that baby to be viable – is a hoax. The reality is that today, with the technology we have available to us, babies as young as 22 to 24 weeks are born and live outside the womb on a regular basis.
The notion of viability as it is portrayed by Illinois law is completely false.
We talked about some other aspects of this issue – I told her that I believe abortion providers in Illinois like Hope Clinic have become so brazen as to advertise an illegal procedure because they know the Attorney General won’t uphold the law. AG Raoul is an activist who is only interested in expanding abortion in the state – not limiting it.
All of this, from my perspective, was reflected in the article she wrote. She included my concerns about the vague nature of the law, misrepresentations of viability, and the politics of it all…
She even included a quote from Dr. Karen Deighan that I HAVE to share:
“You can see very early the heart, all the organs, the head, the eyes, the movement. You can see the baby inside,” said Deighan, then an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Loyola University Medical Center. “I struggle sometimes, because some of my colleagues will work so hard to protect and save a 22-week peri-viable pregnancy. … And then don’t see a problem with someone choosing to end that pregnancy.”
WOW!
Zander said that not only will the new abortion business kill babies in abortions almost up to birth, it will put women’s lives at risk.
“No inspections, no health and safety standards, no rules… and it’s putting women at risk,” she said.
