One of the arguments against striking Iran’s nuclear facilities by both left and right has been the fear of retaliation by Iran.
While the heckler’s/terrorist’s veto should never dictate actual policy by administrations (looking at YOU, Obama Bros), the reality is that America is uniquely exposed to the possibility of terror retaliation thanks to years of open border policies. The people sneaking over the southern border were not just Central Americans looking to earn money for their families and make a better life in the United States. The amount of Chinese that got into the country via the southern border broke records in 2024. Imagine what kind of damage thousands of illegal, untracked Chinese aliens could do within the United States at China’s behest. We can already see what is happening at universities.
That brings us to the number of Iranians illegally floating through the southern border during the Biden administration. Those numbers aren’t pretty.

It’s unclear how many of these Iranians were on the terror watchlist, as the Biden administration repeatedly denied my FOIA requests and appeals for the data, citing the “privacy concerns” of the people on the list and “minimal public interest” in disclosing the data.
There were over 2 million known/recorded gotaways at the border during the Biden administration. Because they were never caught, no way of knowing where they’re from.
All Iranians are “special interest aliens” due to national security concerns, and they are supposed to receive enhanced vetting by DHS.
Almost half of the Iranians encountered by the Biden Border Patrol were released into the U.S.
Doesn’t that make you feel so warm and fuzzy inside?
Knowing this, it’s little wonder that large cities like New York, Washington DC, and Los Angeles are on alert for any potential attack or sabotage that could be carried out by a sleeper cell – or a “lone wolf” – activated by Iran.
“We’re tracking the situation unfolding in Iran,” NYPD said in a post on X. “Out of an abundance of caution, we’re deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across NYC and coordinating with our federal partners. We’ll continue to monitor for any potential impact to NYC.”
Shortly thereafter, the Metropolitan Police Department released a similar statement on the social media platform.
“The Metropolitan Police Department is closely monitoring the events in Iran,” the statement said. “We are actively coordinating with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to share information and monitor intelligence in order to help safeguard residents, businesses, and visitors in the District of Columbia.”
MPD said there are no known threats to the District, but that it will increase its presence at religious institutions across the city.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass posted on X, noting that following the bombings in Iran, the city is “closely monitoring any threats to public safety.”
“There are no known credible threats at this time and out of an abundance of caution, LAPD is stepping up patrols near places of worship, community gathering spaces and other sensitive sites,” Bass wrote in the post. “We will remain vigilant in protecting our communities.”
Which makes what the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department posted – and then hastily deleted – even more insane.
The LA County Sheriff’s office just deleted this tweet calling the U.S. strikes on the Iranian regime’s nuclear facilities a “tragic event” and saying that “our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the recent bombings in Iran.” pic.twitter.com/xnq2u8NDnY

Um, exactly WHAT on earth is going on at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department? An edit was first made to take out the entire first paragraph, and then the whole post was deleted. So, exactly who was mourning “victims and families in Iran” in the LA Sheriff’s Department? The strikes that the United States carried out were on nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. These were not civilian targets. We have no idea who was killed at these facilities, but unless Iran was taking a page out of Hamas’s book and putting women and children right on top of an underground nuclear facility, the odds that civilians were hit are extraordinarily low to non-existent. The fact that someone with the keys to the X account for a law enforcement agency made this inital statement is deeply problematic at best.
Late Sunday night, they issued an apology via X.

An initial version of the LASD statement posted to X read, “Our hearts go out to the victims and families impacted by the recent bombings in Iran. While this tragic event occurred overseas, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is closely monitoring the situation alongside our local, state, and federal partners.”
Minutes later, the department edited the statement to remove mentions of Iranian victims and families, before ultimately deleting the social media post.
Around 7 p.m. Sunday, the department issued a formal apology statement and shared an updated version of the post.
“We are issuing this statement to formally apologize for an offensive and inappropriate social media post recently posted on our Department social media platforms regarding the ongoing conflict in Iran,” the statement read. “This post was unacceptable, made in error, and does not reflect the views of Sheriff Robert G. Luna or the Department.”
LASD says it’s launching an internal review to find out how the post was created and published.
“Steps are being taken to strengthen our social media oversight protocols and ensure that any future communications align with our Department’s standards on professionalism, respect, and accountability,” read the statement.
The statement would have been better if they outright said “those responsible for the credits have been sacked,” but someone should be, at a minimum, shaking in their shoes over the consequences. Who on earth would think that this statement was appropriate to put out, and still expect to keep their job afterward?
But this brings us back around to the primary concern. We DON’T know why some Iran sympathizer would have access to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s social media. We DON’T know how many Iranian nationals are in the United States illegally. We DON’T know where those illegals are, or what they plan to do, or if they are organized terror cells waiting to be activated. The hard truth is, of course, that all it takes is ONE. You don’t need a terror cell to make an impact – you just need ONE person willing to pull a trigger or push a button. We’ve seen the ugly and heartbreaking results of that happening recently. The job of the federal government, and local government and law enforcement, is to imagine the worst case scenario of this happening all over the country, and prepare for it. But it sure is difficult to prepare for the “unknown unknowns” – and the fact that we don’t have a handle on where these Iranian illegals are is deeply dangerous. This situation is exactly why border enforcement was such an important priority – and why if something does happen, Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas should bear the full brunt of the fault, legally, politically, and every single way possible.
