In an exclusive RAIR Foundation USA video, author and speaker Trevor Loudon warns New Yorkers about mayoral candidate Zohran Kwame Mamdani, emphasizing the activism of his parents, Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, and their influence on his candidacy against Andrew Cuomo.
Loudon, an expert on Marxist and terrorist groups, exposes Zohran’s affiliations as part of the Red/Green Axis, a convergence of Marxism and Islam that threatens the city.
Zohran Mamdani’s Marxist and Twelver Shia Affiliations
Loudon identifies Zohran Mamdani as a Shia Muslim and Ithna-Asheri, or Twelver, a sect that believes in fostering world chaos to hasten the return of the 12th Imam and Judgment Day. Twelver Shia became Iran’s state dogma under Ayatollah Khomeini after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Zohran’s membership in the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), America’s largest Marxist organization, represents the Red/Green Axis, merging Marxism with Islam. His ideology would lead to policies favoring leniency on crime and straining relations with New York’s Jewish community.
Mira Nair’s Anti-Israel Activism
Zohran’s mother, Mira Nair, an Indian-American director, producer, and writer, is known for films like Mississippi Masala and Monsoon Wedding. Like her husband and her son, she is an anti-Israel activist.
In 2021, Nair signed a letter titled “Artists for Palestine UK” condemning Israel’s designation of certain Palestinian groups as terrorist organizations linked to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
In 2013, Nair declined an invitation to the Haifa International Film Festival, stating in part, “I will go to Israel when apartheid is over.” Her activism shapes the Mamdani family’s perspective.
Mahmood Mamdani’s Anti-Israel Advocacy
Zohran’s father, Mahmood Mamdani, a Ugandan academic of Indian descent and longtime Columbia University professor, advocates against Israel. Both Mahmood and Zohran have Canary Mission pages, which track antisemitic activism.
Antisemitism runs in the family, it seems.
Mahmood has called for Israel’s dismantlement, notably at a 2014 Columbia University Center for Palestine Studies event and also in a 2021 interview. He compared Israelis to Nazis in 2021, claiming the “de-Nazification” project led to an Israel without Palestinians, and suggested in a 2021 YouTube video that the Nuremberg Trials facilitated this outcome.
Mahmood’s Pro-Hamas and BDS Activities
In April 2024, Mahmood spoke at and supported the “Gaza Solidarity Encampment” at Columbia, organized by Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace. He joined a faculty walkout rally on April 22, 2024, protesting student suspensions and supporting divestment from Israel.

Mahmood has promoted BDS at Columbia, supporting campaigns in 2002, 2009, and 2016. He signed a 2002 divestment petition, spoke at a 2009 divestment teach-in, and backed a 2016 campaign by Columbia University Apartheid Divest. In 2011, he delivered a keynote at the National Students for Justice in Palestine conference.
Mahmood’s Connection with Roxanne Dunbar Ortiz
Mahmood has a connection with Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, a Maoist academic who endorses Mao Zedong’s Communism. Both share a belief that terrorism is resistance against colonial oppressors.
Dunbar-Ortiz, linked to Marxist organizations Liberation Road, the Revolutionary Union, and the Line of March, has cited Mahmood in articles and held a video discussion with him about her book “Not a Nation of Immigrants: Settler Colonialism, White Supremacy, and a History of Erasure and Exclusion.”
His books frame terrorism as a response to settler colonialism, a theme shared with Dunbar Ortiz.
In October 2008, both Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz and Mahmood Mamdani signed a statement ”Support Bill Ayers” in solidarity with former Weather Underground Organization terrorist Bill Ayers.
Despite his “anti-colonial” stance, Mahmood was appointed to the Advisory Board of the United Nations Democracy Fund, which works to shape countries like South Africa and Tunisia into its vision of “democracy”.

Historical Parallel to David Dinkins
Zohran Mahmood’s agenda echoes the philosophy of Marxist mayor David Dinkins in the early 1990s, when crime, drugs, and unemployment rose, indicating potential outcomes if Zohran is elected.
Notably, David Dinkins was also a DSA Member.
Loudon urges New Yorkers to research the Mamdani family’s history and vote to protect the city. The activism of Mira Nair and Mahmood Mamdani, alongside Zohran’s Marxist and Twelver ideology, endangers New York’s safety and stability. Voters must act to prevent this family’s vision from prevailing.
