New York’s Democrat Governor just dropped a bombshell that nobody saw coming.
Her own words proved everything conservatives have been saying about left-wing policies.
And Kathy Hochul just made one stunning admission about New York that will have Donald Trump grinning.
Hochul admits New York is hemorrhaging residents to Florida
Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul made a jaw-dropping confession during a recent interview with WPIX-TV that exposed the harsh reality of left-wing governance.
When asked about Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to raise taxes on New York’s wealthiest residents as part of his New York City mayoral campaign, Hochul delivered a response that stunned political observers.
“I’m not raising taxes on people at a time when affordability is the big issue,” Hochul told host Dan Mannarino. “I don’t want to lose any more people to go to Palm Beach. We’ve lost enough.”
That admission from New York’s top Democrat official represents a complete vindication of conservative economic policies.
Hochul essentially confirmed what Republicans have been arguing for years.
High taxes and left-wing policies are driving productive citizens out of blue states and into red states like Florida that prioritize economic freedom.
The numbers back up Hochul’s startling confession.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, 91,201 New Yorkers moved to Florida in 2022, while only 21,300 Floridians moved to New York, creating a net migration of 69,901 residents to the Sunshine State.
A report found that Palm Beach County and Miami-Dade County brought in significant numbers of high-earning New Yorkers, with more than $9 million in income shifting from New York to South Florida.
The Trump tax cuts exposed Democrat failures
Hochul tried to blame Republicans for New York’s exodus problem, specifically pointing to changes in the state and local tax deduction.
“We had a major out-migration when Republicans in Congress eliminated the state local tax deduction,” Hochul claimed. “New Yorkers paid $72 billion more to the federal government over the last seven years because the Republicans did not stand up.”
But Hochul’s excuse actually proves the opposite point.
The Trump tax reforms simply removed a federal subsidy that allowed high-tax states like New York to pass their burden on taxpayers in low-tax states.
Before Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, New Yorkers could deduct their state and local taxes from their federal tax bill.
This meant that taxpayers in states like Florida and Texas were essentially subsidizing New York’s bloated government spending and sky-high tax rates.
When Trump capped the state and local tax deduction at $10,000, it forced New Yorkers to feel the full weight of their state’s punishing tax policies.
The result was exactly what conservatives predicted – wealthy New Yorkers started fleeing to states with better tax climates.
EPA Administrator confirms the exodus is permanent
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, a former New York congressman, delivered another brutal assessment of the Empire State’s failures during an interview on Florida’s Voice Radio with Drew Steele.
“A lot of New Yorkers have fled to Florida, Texas, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and it’s not just about the weather,” Zeldin explained. “You come down to a place like Florida and you feel like you’re living freer, safer, your money’s going further, and you’re not just putting the state in time out. You’re gone. It’s a permanent move, and you’re not looking back.”
Zeldin recounted a telling anecdote from his 2022 gubernatorial campaign when he attended a fundraiser in Dallas, Texas.
“There was like 40 people in the room. I asked, how many are former New Yorkers? A majority of hands went up,” Zeldin said.
The EPA Administrator also criticized New York’s extreme climate policies, including bans on gas hookups in new construction and restrictions on natural gas extraction.
“They have climate goal dates that cannot be reached,” Zeldin stated. “And in their attempt to reach it, they’re causing real harm.”
Florida’s success exposes New York’s failures
The contrast between New York and Florida couldn’t be starker.
While New York has a top marginal tax rate of 10.9% for high earners, Florida has no state income tax at all.
New York consistently ranks among the states with the highest tax burdens in the nation.
Meanwhile, Florida has become a magnet for businesses and individuals seeking economic opportunity and personal freedom.
The Sunshine State’s population boom and economic growth stand as a testament to the power of conservative governance.
Hochul’s admission that she doesn’t want to “lose any more people” to Florida is a tacit acknowledgment that her state’s left-wing policies are driving away the very taxpayers who fund government operations.
“I don’t want to give anyone else who’s supporting our economy, and their taxes are appreciated,” Hochul said. “Driving them to Florida does not help us. So let’s be smart about this.”
But being “smart” would mean abandoning the tax-and-spend policies that created this mess in the first place.
Instead, Hochul and other Democrat governors continue to double down on the same failed approaches that are hollowing out their states.
The great migration from blue states to red states represents one of the most significant political and economic realignments in modern American history.
And Kathy Hochul just provided the perfect example of why this trend will continue as long as Democrats refuse to learn from their mistakes.
