The Trump administration made a dramatic decision to strike three key nuclear facilities in Iran, a surprise move, given the president’s prior suggestion that a two-week timeframe for deliberations was on the table.
In the wake of the mission, Donald Trump declared the attacks on Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan to have been “very successful,” ushering in a scenario that could change the political dynamic in the Middle East for decades to come, according to Breitbart.
Attack complete
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to elaborate on what occurred, detailing that the mission targeted the aforementioned three sites.
“All plans are now outside Iran air space,” Trump assured Americans after the mission was finished.
He continued, “A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”
Paying homage to those responsible for the success, Trump went on, “Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this.”
Turning his attention to the open question of what will come next, Trump stated emphatically, “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”
Game-changing mission
During a Sunday morning press conference, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Dan “Razin” Caine offered additional details on the strikes, as The Hill reports.
Though Caine indicated that assessment of the damage wrought during the attacks was still underway, he noted that all three facilities saw “severe damage and destruction.”
Just hours before, Trump stated that the three sites and their attendant nuclear enrichment capability had been “obliterated.”
Hegseth, for his part, stated that for Iran, “Now is the time to come forward for peace.”
Despite Iran’s apparent reluctance to engage in negotiations, Hegseth mused, “And I think Tehran is certainly calculating the reality that plans flew from the middle of America and Missouri overnight, completely undetected over three of their most highly sensitive sites, and we were able to destroy nuclear capabilities.”
What’s next?
Since the attack was announced, Trump has reiterated his call for peace, and though he stated that regime change in Iran is not the objective, he warned the country that retaliatory actions against Americans will result in a strong response, noting, “Remember, there are many targets left.”
Unsurprisingly, Trump must now contend with political unease at home, as a group of legislators are working to pass a resolution limiting his ability to escalate against Iran, with others arguing that impeachment is now needed, but, as he has demonstrated innumerable times in recent years, the president is unlikely to shy away from this or any other fight.
