NEWARK, NJ – The tranquility of a Newark neighborhood was shattered when gunfire erupted, leaving residents in shock. Late Friday night, bullets struck several homes on Leslie Street, injuring two women who were inside. Thankfully, both victims are expected to recover, but the shooter remains at large.
As the sun set over Saint Peter’s Park, laughter could be heard from families enjoying the pool. Yet, just a short distance away, chaos unfolded when gunshots rang out. Stanley, a resident across from the park, recounted how his wife was wounded in the hand while she was in bed. His car was also damaged, with several windows shot out during the incident.
Stanley’s wife was one of two innocent bystanders hit by stray bullets. The confusion and fear were palpable as residents tried to make sense of the violence that invaded their homes. “Blood is on my hand,” Stanley recalled, describing the surreal moment he realized his wife was injured.
Neighbors reported that at least three bullets struck a nearby house, with one going through the wall and into the adjacent home. Fortunately, no one was hurt in those homes, but the incident has raised concerns about safety and police presence in the area.
Residents voiced their frustration, noting that police seem to respond only after such violent incidents occur. The gunfire hit three homes, and the community is now grappling with the fear that it could happen again.
The neighborhood, normally a haven for children playing and families gathering, is now a scene of anxiety. The proximity to the community pool only heightens residents’ worries about their safety and the safety of their children.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for justice and a return to peace. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
