President Donald Trump appears to be in favor of cutting back on some of America’s “non-working holidays.”
Trump suggested as much in a social media message that he posted on Juneteenth, one of those “non-working holidays.”
Take a look:
Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE…

“Costing our country BILLIONS”
In his message, the president argued that there are too many “non-working holidays,” which are “costing our country billions of dollars.”
“Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either!” he wrote.
Trump went on to suggest that the situation, if the country keeps its current trajectory regarding non-working holidays, is only going to get worse unless something is done about it.
“Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every one working day of the year. It must change if we are going to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he wrote.
The message, suffice it to say, has caught the attention of many.
Hidden criticism?
Some are arguing that it is no coincidence that Trump chose to release this message on Juneteenth.
Fox News explains:
Juneteenth commemorates the end of all slavery in the United States. It was first celebrated on June 19, 1866, to mark the abolition of slavery in Texas. Trump previously recognized Juneteenth in his first presidential administration. In 2019, he said that Juneteenth “has served as an opportunity to celebrate the fundamental truth that all people are created equal and that liberty is a right endowed by our Creator.”
Given that Trump has supported Juneteenth in the past, however, it is probably unfair to argue that he is secretly criticizing the purpose of Juneteenth in his message.
Rather, we ought to probably take him at his word, which is that there are too many non-working holidays that are costing the country too much money.
That being said, Fox News reports, “But on Thursday, the White House was silent about the holiday. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that she wasn’t ‘tracking [Trump’s] signature on a proclamation today,’ after she was asked whether Trump would commemorate the holiday.”
