The race for Florida Governor is heating up faster than anyone expected.
A bombshell campaign ad just hit the airwaves that left political insiders stunned.
And Byron Donalds dropped one brutal fact that exposed his Democrat opponent’s shocking betrayal.
Former Republican David Jolly switches sides in stunning political flip
The 2026 Florida Governor’s race took an unexpected turn when former Republican Congressman David Jolly announced he was running for the state’s highest office.
But there was one major catch that caught everyone off guard.
Jolly is now running as a Democrat after spending years as a Republican in Congress.
The 60-year-old former lawmaker made the stunning announcement that he was switching parties and embracing what he called the Democrat agenda.
But Jolly’s party-switching antics didn’t go unnoticed by his opponents.
Republican Congressman Byron Donalds, who has already raised over $16 million for his gubernatorial campaign, wasted no time in calling out Jolly’s political betrayal.
Donalds launched the first attack ad of the 2026 campaign cycle, and it packed a devastating punch against the party-switching politician.
Byron Donalds exposes Jolly’s own words in devastating campaign ad
The one-minute video released by the Donalds campaign featured footage of Jolly making a statement that will haunt his campaign.
In an interview with Hopium Chronicles in May, Jolly made a comment that perfectly encapsulated his embrace of the radical left.
“The Democratic Party is absolutely right on the issues,” Jolly declared on camera.
Those nine words became the centerpiece of Donalds’ brutal takedown of his opponent.
The Donalds campaign strategically positioned Jolly’s endorsement of Democrats alongside some of the party’s most controversial positions.
The ad featured Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer pushing for amnesty by saying, “Our ultimate goal is to help the Dreamers, but get a path to citizenship for all 11 million or however many undocumented.”
It also showed 2024 Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris promising that “every transgender inmate in the prison system would have access” to gender surgery.
The campaign advertisement highlighted California’s radical policies that Florida conservatives find appalling.
This included footage of a transgender athlete winning a California track event and rioters waving Mexican flags in Los Angeles.

Florida Republicans blast Jolly as a “flip-flopping political relic”
Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power didn’t mince words when describing Jolly’s candidacy.
“No matter the issue, David Jolly has been on all sides of it,” Power stated, calling him a “flip-flopping political relic.”
Power pointed out that Florida currently enjoys a 1.3 million Republican voter advantage, making Jolly’s chances extremely slim.
“Under Republican leadership, Florida enjoys low inflation, fiscal responsibility, and a thriving economy,” Power explained. “School choice and parental rights are prioritized, and support for the rule of law is unmatched.”
The Florida GOP Chairman reminded voters about President Donald Trump’s double-digit victory in the state just seven months ago.
Power predicted that Jolly has “no platform, no base, and no chance in Florida.”
Ryan Smith, Chief Strategist for the Byron Donalds Campaign, delivered an even more scathing assessment of Jolly’s candidacy.
“The Democrat Party is absolutely wrong on the issues, and David Jolly is absolutely wrong for Florida,” Smith declared.
Smith outlined the radical positions that Jolly now supports as a Democrat.
“While David Jolly supports flooding our communities with criminal illegal aliens, letting men compete in women’s sports, and crushing families with higher taxes, common-sense Floridians do not,” Smith stated.
Donalds positions himself as Trump’s chosen candidate
Byron Donalds made it clear that he represents everything Jolly opposes.
“David Jolly is an anti-Trump radical leftist who wants to raise your taxes, allow illegals to pour across our border, take school choice away from families, ban guns, and bring woke ideology to Florida,” Donalds stated.
The Congressman emphasized his connection to President Trump, who has already endorsed his gubernatorial campaign.
“Florida is Trump Country, and I am proudly endorsed by President Trump to be Florida’s next Governor,” Donalds declared.
Smith drew comparisons between Jolly and another notorious party-switcher in Florida politics.
He connected Jolly’s political transformation to former Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist, who has flip-flopped on major issues throughout his career.
“Byron Donalds will be Florida’s next Governor because he is the only proven conservative fighter endorsed by President Trump,” Smith concluded.
The campaign strategist also took a shot at Jolly’s post-congressional career.
Smith described him as a “failed politician, lobbyist, and MSNBC commentator” who will soon add “failed Gubernatorial candidate to his resume.”
Jolly’s candidacy comes as term-limited Republican Governor Ron DeSantis prepares to conclude his tenure in 2026.
But if this early campaign exchange is any indication, Jolly’s party-switching gambit may have backfired spectacularly.
Florida voters will have to decide whether they want a proven conservative fighter or a politician who admits the Democratic Party is “absolutely right on the issues.”
