Oregon lawmakers sparked outrage after hosting a drag show on the House floor, leaving conservatives questioning the use of taxpayer-funded spaces for such performances. The event, which celebrated Black drag queens, ignited fierce debate about appropriate uses of legislative chambers and perceived double standards in political expression.
At a glance:
• A drag show was performed on the floor of the Oregon House of Representatives as part of a Democratic resolution celebrating Black drag queens
• Republican state Rep. Dwayne Yunker criticized the event as “political theater” that the Founding Fathers never envisioned for legislative chambers
• Yunker argued the House floor should be reserved for serious debate and lawmaking, not cultural performances
• The event sparked social media backlash with many expressing embarrassment and criticizing Democrats
• Critics questioned if other cultural or religious events, like a Catholic Mass, would be allowed in the chamber
Oregon House Floor Transformed for Drag Performance
Democrats in Oregon’s House of Representatives turned the legislative chamber into a stage for drag performers celebrating Black drag queens…for some reason. The controversial event was part of a Democratic House resolution officially recognizing Black drag queens in Oregon, drawing immediate criticism from Republican lawmakers.
Oregon state Rep. Dwayne Yunker voiced strong opposition to the performance taking place in a government building. “I’m not sure the Founding Fathers envisioned taxpayer-funded legislative chambers being turned into platforms for political theater,” Yunker said.

Republican Lawmaker Condemns “Partisan Spectacle”
Yunker emphasized that legislative chambers should be dedicated to serious governmental business rather than cultural performances. “The House floor is meant for serious debate, lawmaking, and serving all Oregonians not partisan spectacles designed to push cultural agendas,” he stated.
How is that even a controversial thing to say, now?

The Republican representative further condemned the event as fiscally irresponsible. “This is outrageous and a complete waste of taxpayer money,” Yunker added, highlighting concerns about using public resources for such displays.
Social media erupted with criticism following the performance, with many conservatives pointing out apparent double standards. Many questioned whether religious-themed events would receive similar approval in the governmental space, suggesting a Catholic Mass or evangelical prayer service would likely be rejected.
Oregon’s Ongoing Drag Madness
The House floor controversy follows a pattern of heated confrontations surrounding drag events in Oregon. In October 2022, a “Drag Queen Storytime” event at Old Nick’s Pub in Eugene triggered violent clashes between LGBTQ+ extremist activists and some conservative groups.
That event, which controversially featured an 11-year-old performer named Venellope, required extensive security precautions. The Eugene Police Department deployed officers in riot gear, drones, tactical units, and K-9 units as tensions escalated between opposing groups.
Democrats know that exposing children to sexualized content makes people angry, and they must surely know it’s wrong…but they keep on doing it anyway.
