Things turned violent at a Waco apartment complex when a 29-year-old woman allegedly attacked two of her neighbors with a knife—and her chilling comments to police are raising serious alarm.
Emily LaVelle, a resident at the Tennyson Arms apartments, is now out on bail after being arrested for allegedly stabbing two women during a heated altercation on June 7. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, LaVelle had already been involved in a previous dispute with one of the victims.
When asked by police what was going through her mind during the confrontation, LaVelle reportedly replied, “Do or die.”
Police were called to the complex after receiving reports of a woman with a knife who had “just stabbed someone.” LaVelle allegedly fled the scene and barricaded herself inside her apartment before being apprehended.
Two women were found with injuries, including one who had been stabbed near her collarbone, dangerously close to her throat. The victims told officers that LaVelle had approached their group armed with a knife, stabbed one woman, and then turned on another before others tried to hold her back.
Witnesses said they were able to restrain LaVelle until shortly before police arrived. She then escaped back into her unit, where officers eventually took her into custody.
While receiving a medical evaluation, LaVelle told police she had been in a “mutual combat physical altercation” earlier that day with one of the women she later stabbed. That first fight allegedly happened about an hour before the more serious attack.
She admitted to slipping a knife into her pocket after the initial fight, but later contradicted herself, denying she had a knife at all. Her story continued to shift under questioning, but when pressed on what she intended to do if she felt threatened, LaVelle reportedly said she “would do anything”—even adding that if she had a knife, she would’ve “killed that b—.”
LaVelle was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into McLennan County Jail. She posted bond the following day, June 8. A motive for the stabbing has not yet been disclosed, and a court date has not been publicly scheduled.
