TAMPA, FL – The families of two men killed in a tragic crash on the Courtney Campbell Causeway in 2022 are still grappling with the absence of justice. The driver accused of causing the fatal collision, allegedly under the influence, remains on the run, leaving loved ones without closure.
George Negretti, father of one of the victims, has been waiting over three years to see the accused, Joshua Roloffs, face trial. In April, the families gathered in court, anticipating the proceedings, only to be met with disappointment as Roloffs failed to appear, becoming a fugitive.
Ricky Gongora, remembered as a joyful soul who could brighten anyone’s day, was one of the victims. His family, along with the family of his friend Chris Coroli, continues to endure the pain of their loss. The crash, which occurred in April 2022, involved Roloffs reportedly driving over 100 miles per hour and rear-ending the victims’ vehicle.
Roloffs was scheduled to stand trial for charges of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter. His absence in court led to a revoked bond and an arrest warrant. Negretti, residing in Texas, expressed frustration over Roloffs being granted bond initially, questioning the justice system’s decision.
Previously employed as a deputy, Roloffs was dismissed in 2015 following an arrest for falsifying a time card. His current status as a fugitive only adds to the families’ anguish. Negretti described Roloffs as a coward, avoiding accountability for his actions.
It’s been over two months since Roloffs was last seen. Until he is apprehended, the case remains stalled, prolonging the families’ wait for resolution. Negretti urges Roloffs to surrender, emphasizing the need for him to answer for the injustice committed.
Roloffs faces multiple charges, including two counts each of vehicular homicide and DUI manslaughter. Upon capture, he is expected to confront additional legal repercussions.
