Podcaster Jennifer Welch attacked United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents Wednesday night, implying that they were “monsters” because they engaged in “separating families.”
Rioting spread to multiple cities after initially flaring up in Los Angeles following an ICE operation, with some Democrats demanding that the agency cease its operations in the Los Angeles area as a way to “restore order” in the city. Welch claimed during “CNN NewsNight” that those being deported were not receiving due process after Republican strategist Shermichael Singleton said the “optics” of the raids could be exploited by Democrats.
“You’re worried about the optics. I’m worried about the human beings. You have men in black masks going and separating families, and you want to know why Democrats care about that? Because we’re not monsters,” Welch said. “The majority of these people that Trump has rounded up, we don’t know if they have a criminal record or not. We don’t know if they’re legal or not because they‘re being denied due process. And we care about that because we’re not monsters. So I think you see a lot of Americans that see that and they say, ‘No, that’s not okay.’”

Democrats demanded that Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an adjudicated member of the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13, be brought back to the United States, claiming he had not received due process and had been mistakenly deported. The Trump administration released a 13-page dossier detailing the evidence against Abrego Garcia in April.
Abrego Garcia was detained in 2022 by the Tennessee Highway Patrol on suspicion of human trafficking but was released at the behest of the Biden administration, FBI, according to the Tennessee Star. Abrego Garcia returned to the United States in order to face charges in federal court for human trafficking on June 6.
President Donald Trump has made illegal immigration a priority in his second term after campaigning on the issue during the 2024 presidential election. Trump issued several executive orders to address illegal immigration and border security, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang TdA, and MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations upon taking office on Jan. 20 and invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of gang members on March 15.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
