Just a few days ago, Israel started strategically taking out nuclear facilities in the rogue state of Iran. This move came after two years of conflict with Iran’s proxies in the region. But it was well known that Iran is trying to build a nuke. So, Israel took the bold step to strike the nation directly. Iran quickly responded, firing missiles at civilian targets in the country of Israel.
As you might imagine, the entire region is on red alert. Flights across the Middle East have been grounded, as nearby nations brace for the worst. Civilians are required to take to bomb shelters regularly. What you might not know is that more than a few American citizens were in Israel when the fighting started. They have been stranded overseas, unable to find passage back to the U.S.
This is hardly as easy situation to sort out. The federal government, under Trump, is navigating a solution that can end fighting and reach a deal. But some Republicans are coming up with solutions to return American citizens home.

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis chartered four flights to bring roughly 1,500 Jewish-Americans who evacuated from Israel back home to America.
The Americans on a 10-day Birthright Israel trip took an Israeli cruise vessel to Larnaca, Cyprus, while protected by the Israeli Navy. DeSantis chartered four wide-bodied jetliners to bring them from Cyprus back to Tampa, Florida, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
“The remainder of the 2,800 international participants who were in Israel when war broke out on Friday have chosen to depart via other means or have chosen to stay in Israel with family,” the Jerusalem Post reported.
Wow, this is incredible. Over 1,000 Americans were in Israel when the fighting began. The Israeli Navy secured means for them to sail from the mainland to nearby island, Cyprus. Even then, it was unlikely that any commercial airlines were willing to fly them out. So, the Governor of Florida charted four flights to bring 1,500 Americans home. The planes will take them from Cyprus, to the safe shores of Tampa, Florida. From there, we can assume, the citizens can make their way to their respective homes.
Times like this give leaders an opportunity to step up and do great things. DeSantis can’t snap his fingers and end the war. But he can surely do what he can to help Americans in need. This move should inspire other leaders to look for ways to help during this conflict. President Trump and his administration is seeking a resolution that ends the fighting and ensures Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
Meanwhile, other leaders can continue in DeSantis’ lead and help stranded Americans–or perhaps help those here at home struggling during this time. It is no secret that many Americans have family living in that region. What can our leaders do to help them contact their family and ensure their safety? Probably a lot, is our guess. DeSantis’ kind act will hopefully be just the start of aid being extended to Americans in need.
