The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has begun notifying over half a million migrants that they must leave the U.S., according to a new report.
The migrants affected are from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.
These individuals had entered the country through a parole program initiated by former President Joe Biden’s administration.
The program allowed participants to remain in the U.S. for two years and obtain work authorization, provided they had a financial sponsor within the country.
The Biden-era initiative is now being terminated following a Supreme Court decision that sided with a request from the Trump administration to end the program.
The Department of Justice had filed an emergency petition to shut it down, which the Court granted in May 2025.
Following the decision, DHS began issuing termination notices to participants.
These notices inform recipients that their parole has been revoked and that their legal authorization to work is also no longer valid.
The Biden policy was heavily criticized by Trump officials, who argued that it facilitated mass entry without sufficient vetting, per the Conservative Brief.
They claimed the program lacked proper enforcement mechanisms and posed risks to national security.
“This was never about compassion,” a DHS official stated, asserting that the program was designed to allow large-scale migration with minimal oversight. Officials said it was an abuse of executive power.
Although Biden officials had claimed that the migrants were screened and financially backed by sponsors, Trump’s team said the process was ineffective and allowed room for fraud and exploitation.
The new DHS notices emphasize that these individuals are no longer legally protected under the parole program and must depart the United States unless they obtain legal status through other means.
A DHS press release confirmed that emails have been sent to migrants who came through the program, notifying them of their change in status and revoked work permissions.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin accused the Biden administration of misleading the public and endangering national welfare by allowing poorly vetted individuals into the country under the program.
She added that the decision to terminate the parole policy represents a shift toward prioritizing public safety, lawful entry, and employment protection for American citizens.
According to DHS, more than 530,000 migrants were granted entry under the CHNV parole program since 2022. With the Supreme Court upholding its cancellation, all affected individuals are now being directed to leave the country unless they’ve secured lawful status.
The DHS also introduced a self-deportation incentive through the CBP One Mobile App. Migrants who voluntarily return to their home countries using the app will be provided travel assistance and a $1,000 bonus upon arrival.
The parole program’s end is part of President Donald Trump’s broader immigration agenda to tighten border controls and reverse what his administration sees as open-border policies.
Democrats had framed the parole effort as a humanitarian measure, but Trump officials have consistently labeled it as an unlawful bypass of congressional immigration authority.
