The two countries continued exchanging barrages on Saturday
Israel struck an oil depot in Shahran, a northwestern suburb of Tehran, as the two archrivals continued trading barrages throughout Saturday and into Sunday.
Videos from the scene show a massive blaze and plumes of thick black smoke. The Iranian Oil Ministry said firefighters and emergency crews were dispatched to the site.
Israeli jets also bombed military and nuclear sites across Iran, including a uranium enrichment facility in Natanz. Several top commanders and veteran nuclear scientists were reportedly killed in targeted assassination operations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strikes were intended to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Iran condemned the attacks as unjustified and responded by launching a barrage of kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles into Israel. Iranian officials said the Israeli strikes amounted to “a declaration of war.”
