After taking office, President Donald Trump announced that he would be doing his best to have all of the files released, as unredacted as possible, regarding the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
Trump had become friends with RFK Jr., and part of his inspiration behind this week’s move was to help him get some closure on the matter, as he still seems to believe the wrong man was arrested for his father’s murder.
One of the revelations from the materials was that it appears Kennedy was serving as a voluntary informant for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Let’s see it
The latest release was nearly 1,500 pages, bringing the total of declassified documents to more than 5,000 pages.
Most of the new documents that were released centered around a trip to the former Soviet Union taken by Kennedy.
The files stated, “Mr. Kennedy served the Agency as a voluntary informant.”
With the release of the new files, CIA Director John Ratcliffe touted Kennedy as a true patriot for working with the agency.
As an example, in one of the briefings with Kennedy by the CIA, he stated, “On 29 Aug 55, while in Novosibirsk, USSR, a friend and I visited a State machine factory. The factory has 3,500 employees, of whom one third are women. The wage scale is between 840 and 2,500 rubles.”
He went on, “The Director of the plant whose name I do not recall was frosty, although the engineer was friendly.”
Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard worked hand-in-hand with Ratcliffe to declassify these documents.
On the project, she stated, “Today’s release is another important step in fulfilling President Trump’s commitment to maximum transparency. Thank you to those at the CIA, ODNI, and NARA who worked hard to locate, review, and digitize these documents, many of which have never been released publicly before.”
Gabbard added, “We will continue coordinating with our partners across the Intelligence Community to fulfill President Trump’s promise of maximum transparency.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is now serving at the secretary of Health and Human Services, was appreciative of the effort, stating, “I commend President Trump for his courage and his commitment to transparency. I’m grateful also to Tulsi Gabbard and John Ratcliffe for their dogged efforts to root out and declassify these documents.”
While I have looked forward to these documents being released, I have never believed we would see anything truly earth-shattering in them.
My opinion… all information that would have or could have implicated our government has been long removed from these files. Honestly, I don’t think we will ever truly learn the truth, especially in the case of JFK when the government continues to pitch that magic bullet theory.
