President Donald Trump launched a fierce attack on California Governor Gavin Newsom this week, calling him “incompetent” and accusing him of failing to protect federal agents during the ongoing protests in Los Angeles.
Knewz.com has learned that Trump and the California Governor have been trading blows over the week as protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations continue in the state.

Recently, the President even went so far as to suggest that Newsom should be “arrested” for being the Governor of California because he has done “such a bad job.”
Fielding questions from the media in the State Dining Room at the White House on Monday, Trump stated:
“What crime has [Governor Newsom] committed? I think his primary crime is running for governor because he’s done such a bad job. What he’s done to that state is like what Biden did to this country. And that’s pretty bad. It’s the wrong philosophy. Thousands, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, many of them prisoners, they’re taking up your healthcare, they’re taking up your space in schools, they’re taking up your hospital. And in many cases, they’re criminals. And we have to do something about it.”
Newsom shared the C-SPAN clip of Trump’s statement and wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Donald Trump admits he will arrest a sitting governor simply because he ran for office.”
And now, Trump has blasted Newsom on his Truth Social platform, calling him “incompetent” for apparently failing to protect the Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers in Los Angeles.

“The INCOMPETENT Governor of California was unable to provide protection in a timely manner when our Ice Officers, GREAT Patriots they are, were attacked by an out of control mob of agitators, troublemakers, and/or insurrectionists. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
The protests and unrest in Los Angeles were sparked by large-scale immigration enforcement actions, where Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents reportedly arrested at least 44 undocumented individuals.
The raids triggered widespread protests throughout the city, with demonstrators blocking highways, setting vehicles ablaze, and clashing with federal agents. According to reports, protesters targeted self-driving Waymo cars in several instances, setting them on fire.
“By evening, police had issued an unlawful assembly order shutting down several blocks of downtown Los Angeles. Flash bangs echoed out every few seconds into the evening,” reports have mentioned.

To deal with the situation, the President signed a memorandum ordering the deployment of “2,000 National Guardsmen to address the lawlessness.”
In an official letter addressed to Secretary Hegseth on Sunday afternoon, Governor Newsom requested to have the National Guard removed from Los Angeles and returned to his command.
“I have formally requested the Trump Administration rescind their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles county and return them to my command. We didn’t have a problem until Trump got involved. This is a serious breach of state sovereignty — inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they’re actually needed,” Governor Newsom wrote on X.
In his latest salvo of social media posts, Trump stood by his decision to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles, saying that Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass should be “thankful” to the President.
“We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California. If we had not done so, Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated. The very incompetent “Governor,” Gavin Newscum, and “Mayor,” Karen Bass, should be saying, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR,”” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

On the other hand, Newsom called Trump a “stone-cold liar” for not mentioning his plans to deploy the California National Guard in response to the protests in Los Angeles during a phone call on Saturday morning.
“We talked for almost 20 minutes and he barely, this issue never came up… I tried to talk about L.A., he wanted to talk about all these other issues. We had a very decent conversation,” Newsom said during the interview.
“He never once brought up the National Guard. He’s a stone-cold liar… He said he did. Stone. Cold. Liar. Never did,” Newsom added.
