Attorney General Pam Bondi on Wednesday rejected questions about whether the Trump administration has a double standard for pardoning January 6 rioters who attacked Capitol Police while looking to prosecute people who attacked federal officers in Los Angeles.
President Donald Trump has faced criticism for activating the California National Guard to help with a riot in downtown Los Angeles over the past week, and for floating using the Insurrection Act on rioters if necessary.
The attorney general was questioned by the press about what the threshold would be for Trump to use the act, and whether he was also looking at using it in other major cities that have recently joined California. She declined to state the threshold.
“Right now in California, we’re at a good point,” Bondi said, per the Washington Examiner. “We’re not scared to go further. We’re not frightened to do something else if we need to.”
Bondi also rejected accusations of a double standard in the way the Trump administration has responded to January 6 and the riots in Los Angeles. No one in the January 6 riot was charged with insurrection.
