After a week of public clashes, Elon Musk extended an olive branch to President Donald Trump early Wednesday morning. The billionaire entrepreneur posted an apology on X, signaling a possible thaw in tensions between the two powerful figures.
“I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote. His statement comes just days after he scrubbed multiple posts that had referenced Trump in connection to documents tied to Jeffrey Epstein.
The rift between the two began over the controversial “One Big Beautiful Bill” moving through the Senate. Musk opposed it fiercely, claiming it would reverse the progress made by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he helped lead under Trump to slash federal waste and bureaucracy.
Despite their disagreement on the bill, Musk made it clear he still supports Trump on other fronts. Over the past few days, he has reposted and commented positively on Trump’s efforts to restore order in riot-torn Los Angeles County.
He also shared Trump’s blistering statement aimed at California Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, blaming them for failing to contain the violence. Musk’s alignment with Trump on law and order stirred speculation that a reconciliation might be in the works.
“Hat tip for fixing a wrong,” former CIA officer Bryan Dean Wright posted in response to Musk’s apology. “The country is better for it.”
The apology, subtle but public, could mark a turning point in their relationship as both men look ahead to 2024 and beyond.
