“The View” co-host Ana Navarro claimed Tuesday night that President Donald Trump’s orders to deploy the National Guard was “wagging the dog” to distract Americans from a failed presidency.
Trump ordered 700 Marines to back up the deployment of federalized National Guard troops Monday as the riots continued into their fifth day following a raid by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at a Los Angeles-area Home Depot. Navarro said Trump was trying to get people to avoid discussing other controversial policies and situations, including his feud with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
“Here’s something that I think is very important, that this is a distraction,” Navarro claimed on “CNN NewsNight.” “While we are talking about this, while Donald Trump is wagging the dog, we are not talking about the ridiculous ‘Yo mama is so ugly’ contest that he was holding with Elon Musk until a few days ago.”

“We are not talking about the parade that he’s throwing,” Navarro continued. “We’re not talking about the big, beautiful bill that is flailing and that is going to leave 11 million people without health coverage. We’re not talking about the failure of his tariffs and economic policy.”
The term Navarro used refers to a 1997 movie in which a scandal-plagued president fakes a war in order to win reelection.
