Attorney General Pam Bondi is the latest member of the Trump administration to be targeted by the left — in her case via the weaponization of the “bar complaint process.”
The decidedly left-leaning Miami Herald cited what it deemed to be “a liberal- and moderate-leaning coalition of about 70 law professors, attorneys and former Florida Supreme Court justices” to report that the group “is attacking Bondi’s record in an ethics complaint filed Thursday with the Florida Bar.”
Bondi is accused of violating her ethical duties as U.S. attorney general, with the coalition alleging she has committed “serious professional misconduct that threatens the rule of law and the administration of justice.”
More from the leftist newspaper:
The complaint claims Bondi “has sought to compel Department of Justice lawyers to violate their ethical obligations under the guise of ‘zealous advocacy’” that she espoused in a Feb. 5 memo to all agency employees on her first day in office.
The complaint further says Bondi threatened agency lawyers with discipline or termination if they failed “to zealously pursue the President’s political objectives,” alleging her conduct violates Florida Bar rules and long-standing norms of the Justice Department.
Justice Department chief of staff Chad Mizelle dismissed the politically motivated allegations in a statement to the Herald, comparing the complainants to “sheep.”
“The Florida Bar has twice rejected performative attempts by these out-of-state lawyers to weaponize the bar complaint process against AG Bondi,” Mizelle said. “This third vexatious attempt will fail to do anything other than prove that the signatories have less intelligence — and independent thoughts — than sheep.”
It’s easy to see why Bondi is being targeted. As attorney general, she has been a stalwart defender of President Donald J. Trump’s policy decisions, as seen in her response this week to the administration’s efforts to prevent foreign students from traveling to the United States to attend Harvard University.
“Admission to the United States to study at an ‘elite’ American university is a privilege, not a right. This Department of Justice will vigorously defend the President’s proclamation suspending the entry of new foreign students at Harvard University based on national security concerns,” Bondi posted Wednesday on X.
