A Democrat representative in Congress is seeing herself at the forefront of controversy after she was caught making an eye-opening comment to her constituents about immigration.
Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT) is facing serious backlash after issuing an eyebrow-raising response to a question surrounding U.S. immigration policy during a town hall event in Newport, Vermont.
Responding to the question, Balint argued that reducing immigration would leave Vermont residents without “anyone around to wipe our a**es.”
“Our economy is completely bound up in immigration and migrant labor,” Balint said during the event.
“We have to come to a place in Congress where it is no longer a political issue, but we see it as an existential issue for the country,” she added.
“If we don’t have avenues for people to come here legally to work or to build a home here, I’m going to be really crude right now — we’re not going to have anybody around to wipe our a**es because we don’t have enough people in our country now to fill the jobs that we have,” she continued.
In the aftermath of her offensive remarks, Vermont GOP Chairman Paul Dame is demanding that Balint issue a formal apology to Vermont’s immigrant community, as Trending Politics reported.
“Congresswoman Balint should apologize — not only for her crude choice of words, but more importantly for the disturbing sentiment that the primary purpose of immigration is to perform labor that she deems beneath the dignity of others,” Dame said in a statement.
“At the heart of these remarks is an opinion so offensive and so profoundly out of touch that it reveals a fundamental lack of respect for those who come to this country — abiding by the rules — in pursuit of freedom, opportunity, and a better life,” he added.
In his statement, Dame noted that immigrants in the Green Mountain State have had prestigious careers, including serving as “world-class” physicians in hospitals across the state.
Dame called Balint’s comments “embarrassing.”
“The way Congresswoman Balint reduced Vermont’s hard-working legal immigrants to little more than ‘a–wipers’ is embarrassing,” he said. “She owes them — and all Vermonters — an apology for such a shameful characterization.”
Balint also faced backlash from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which claimed that the left’s goal is to have “open borders.”
“While complaining about President Trump deporting illegal immigrants, Vermont Democrat Becca Balint claims: ‘We’re not going to have anyone around to wipe our a–es.’ Democrats’ goal is, was and always will be open borders,” the committee wrote on X.
A self-proclaimed “MAGA Patriot” on X that goes by the name Rebellious Fellow rebuked Balint over her comments, calling them “absurd” and “offensive.”
“Becca Balint’s statement is absurd and offensive. She suggests we need immigrants to wipe our behinds because Americans won’t do it. This is why families matter, my grandparents and now my elderly parents rely on me, not strangers. Her view disrespects American values of self-reliance and family care, pushing a reckless open-borders agenda that undermines our nation. Insanity,” the user said.
