Federal immigration authorities arrested the wife and children of the illegal migrant accused of committing a terrorist attack in Colorado, the Trump administration announced.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials detained the wife and all five children of Mohamed Soliman, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Tuesday. Soliman, a 45-year-old Egyptian national, was arrested Sunday for allegedly attacking a pro-Israel crowd in Boulder, Colorado, demonstrating on behalf of hostages kidnapped by Hamas.
“Today, [the Department of Homeland Security] and [ICE] are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado, terrorist, and illegal alien, Mohamed Soliman, into ICE custody,” Noem posted Tuesday on social media. “This terrorist will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
‘We are investigating to what extent his family knew about this heinous attack, if they had knowledge of it, or if they provided support to it,” Noem continued. “I am continuing to pray for the victims of this attack and their families. Justice will be served.”
Soliman, an illegal migrant who overstayed his visa in the U.S., is accused of using a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to attack pro-Israel demonstrators. The DHS previously confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation that he entered the country during the Biden administration.
“The Colorado Terrorist attack suspect, Mohamed Soliman, is illegally in our country,” a DHS spokesperson previously told the DCNF. “He entered the country in August 2022 on a B2 visa that expired in February 2023. He filed for asylum in September 2022.”
The Egyptian national allegedly targeted peaceful demonstrators on Sunday afternoon, advocating for the Israeli hostages who remain in Hamas custody, according to a press release from the City of Boulder. The attack left eight victims — four women and four men ages 52 to 88 — requiring medical attention at Denver metro hospitals.
Soliman allegedly yelled “free Palestine” during his attack against the activists, according to police. After being taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, he was transferred to the Boulder County Jail on multiple charges.
The Department of Justice has since filed federal hate crime charges in addition to state charges for attempted murder.
“The Department of Justice has swiftly charged the illegal alien perpetrator of this heinous attack with a federal hate crime and will hold him accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a prepared statement Monday. “Our prayers are with the victims and our Jewish community across the world.”
