CINCINNATI, OH – A spate of violence struck Cincinnati early Monday morning, near the University of Cincinnati campus, leaving five people wounded, including three fatalities, according to local police. Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident, one of them being among the injured.
Multiple firearms were recovered from the crime scene, Cincinnati police Capt. Mark Burns confirmed to reporters. He confirmed the detention of two persons linked to the incident but refrained from giving further details.
Earlier on Monday, the University’s Public Safety Department issued an emergency alert via the social platform X, indicating that police were responding to an incident that had occurred shortly before 3 a.m. The department later updated the alert to identify the incident as a shooting and advised students and staff to “be observant/take action as needed.”
An “all clear” message was issued by the department about an hour later, stating that a strong police presence would be maintained in the area.
Local news outlets reported that officers on patrol had heard multiple gunshots in the vicinity and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds upon reaching the scene. It was confirmed that all five victims of the shooting were males.
