A media consultant for former Donald Trump prosecutor Nathan Wade pulled him aside during an interview with CNN, following a question from Kaitlan Collins about when his romantic relationship with Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis began.
“Just to clarify, when did the romantic relationship between the two of you start?” Collins asked.
Wade began to answer, before turning to the side and saying, “I’m getting signaled here.”
His microphone was removed, and, with cameras still rolling, Wade and his consultant whispered in a corner.
After the brief aside, Wade returned to the interview. After asking, “Everything okay?” Collins reiterated her question.
“I believe that the public has through, through the testimony and other interviews, the public has a clear snapshot that this is clearly just a distraction,” Wade said. “It is not a relevant issue in this case, and I think that we should be focusing on more of the facts and the indictment in this case.”
Wade continued to dodge Collins’s questions about his relationship with Willis.
Wade and Willis have claimed that their romantic relationship did not begin until after Willis appointed him to be special prosecutor in Fulton County’s election racketeering case against former president Trump. A former friend of Willis, however, testified in February that the affair started before the case.
A superior court judge in March ruled that Willis would be allowed to stay on the case but that Wade would have to resign, due to the “appearance of impropriety.”
The Georgia Court of Appeals last month granted Trump’s request to review that ruling and potentially remove Willis from the case.
