Another tragedy has struck our nation—a school shooting in Minneapolis, carried out by a young man who once identified as a girl and was battling deep mental distress. The shooter, born Robert but later calling himself Robin, confessed in his own writings that he was “tired of being trans” and felt like he had “brainwashed” himself. He couldn’t even bring himself to cut his hair for fear of admitting defeat. This is heartbreaking. And yet, instead of asking tough questions about the role gender confusion might have played in this violent act, the political class once again runs from the truth.
Mayor Jacob Frey, in a recent interview, refused to go near the subject. He said we shouldn’t “villainize” the trans community and insisted that we should just love everyone and focus on the children. That sounds nice on the surface, but it dodges the real issue. We are not talking about villainizing an entire group. We are talking about understanding what drove this young man to kill so we can prevent it from happening again. If we refuse to face facts just because they make us uncomfortable, we are failing our children.
Let’s be clear: no one is saying that every person with gender dysphoria is dangerous. But it is a medical condition, one that often comes with depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Ignoring that reality isn’t compassion—it’s cowardice, and it’s costing lives.
What kind of society are we building when truth itself becomes taboo? When we can’t even ask whether a person’s mental struggles might be connected to their identity crisis because we’re afraid of being called names? This is political correctness run amok. And it’s being pushed by the same crowd that told us boys can be girls, that parents should have no say, and that schools should hide children’s gender confusion from their own mothers and fathers.
The shooter’s own words tell us he was in deep pain. He wasn’t celebrating his so-called transition—he was regretting it. Wishing he could go back. Feeling trapped. That’s not self-acceptance. That’s despair. And if we had a moral and honest culture, we’d be asking how this young man got to that point—and what role our institutions played in pushing him there.
But instead, we get lectures about “team love” and vague calls to “support all communities.” That’s not leadership. That’s evasion. Mayor Frey says we should focus on the act, not the person’s identity. But how can we understand the act if we won’t look at the person’s mind and motivations?
We need to stop pretending that all ideas are equal. They are not. Some ideas are rooted in truth and lead to life. Others are rooted in lies and lead to confusion, sorrow, and sometimes even violence. Telling a young man that he can become a girl is not love. It’s not science. It’s not truth. It is deception, and when that deception is reinforced by schools, media, and government, it can destroy lives.
The Constitution gives us the right to speak freely, to think critically, and to challenge falsehoods—no matter how popular they become. We must use those rights boldly. Because if we don’t, the price will be paid by our children.
We must return to a culture grounded in truth. Truth about human nature. Truth about biology. Truth about the difference between men and women. That truth is not hate. It’s not fear. It’s love—the kind of love that warns a person walking toward a cliff, even if it makes them uncomfortable.
Enough with the slogans. Enough with the cowardice. Let’s be a nation that tells the truth, even when it’s hard. That’s how we protect our kids. That’s how we build a future worth living in. And that’s how we honor the principles of this great republic.
