Tom Homan has never been one to sugarcoat things, and when California Gov. Gavin Newsom took a swipe at Donald Trump and ICE this week, the former ICE director wasted no time tearing into him.
Newsom, speaking at a Politico Summit, went after Trump by painting ICE agents as a kind of rogue “private police force” beholden not to the Constitution, but to the president himself. His remarks weren’t just insulting — they were an outright smear against the men and women tasked with keeping criminals off the streets.
Homan, now serving as border czar, fired back with both barrels.
“Newsom is an embarrassment to the position he holds. Hard stop,” Homan told reporters Thursday. “If he had an ounce of integrity, he’d be calling President Trump and thanking him for making LA safer. He’d be calling the head of ICE and thanking them for the thousands of criminals, public safety threats they’ve taken off the streets of California.”
BREAKING: Tom Homan just CALLED OUT @GavinNewsom after refusing to direct his authorities to work with ICE and DHS:

He didn’t stop there. Homan pointed directly to the data, saying it proves ICE arrests in California have removed violent offenders and dangerous criminals who otherwise would still be walking free. “So Governor Newsom is an embarrassment to the position he holds. And, you know, he’s trying to be relevant apparently, whatever. But we’re gonna be in LA today, we’re gonna be in LA tomorrow, we’re gonna be in every California city.”
This is vintage Homan: unapologetic, blunt, and laser-focused on results. And he’s not wrong. While Newsom struts on stage playing the peacock, ICE continues doing the hard work of cleaning up California’s cities. Every arrest of a gang member, every deportation of a felon, every takedown of a cartel-linked criminal makes communities safer — no matter how loudly Newsom insists otherwise.
You are correct. There’s no comparison. California is:
-homelessness (1 out of 50)
-poverty (1 out of 50)
-Retail crime (1 out of 50)
-gas prices (1 out of 50)
-illiteracy (1 out of 50)
-wage stagnation (1 out of 50)
-frivolous lawsuits (1 out of 50)
-unemployment (3 out of… https://t.co/LijFPEFhU8 pic.twitter.com/STdOlt2goZ— Kevin Dalton (@TheKevinDalton) August 24, 2025
What makes Newsom’s remarks so galling is not just their dishonesty, but their recklessness. To accuse federal law enforcement officers of betraying their oath to the Constitution is a baseless slander, designed for applause lines in a room full of political allies, not grounded in reality. It’s rhetoric aimed at elevating himself for a presidential run, even if it means disparaging those who risk their lives daily.
But Newsom can’t dodge the facts forever. California remains plagued by crime, homelessness, and lawlessness — problems his grandstanding speeches do nothing to solve. Meanwhile, the very agency he attacks is quietly, relentlessly making his state safer.
