The pro-life group Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust filed a formal complaint with the Washington, D.C., Department of Public Health against D.C. late-term abortion doctor Cesare Santangelo. Santangelo performs late-term abortions at the Washington Surgi Clinic, which is located near the George Washington University campus.
It was outside his facility that two local pro-life activists recovered the remains of five fully formed aborted children in 2022.
At a Thursday press conference, local pro-lifers unveiled a website, HurtBySurgi.com, where women who have been injured by Santangelo can submit the details of their situation and have it reviewed by lawyers free of charge.

The 14-page complaint details a considerable amount of alleged professional misconduct at Santangelo’s abortion facility. A woman died after a botched late-term abortion that was performed there in 2010. The department chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at George Washington University filed a medical board complaint against Santangelo in 2013. There were also two medical malpractices lawsuits filed against Santangelo in 2019.
Additionally, there is video evidence from local pro-lifers showing that Santangelo needs a personal assistant to get around and that his right arm is in a full support cast. As such, there is good reason to believe that Santangelo may not be performing abortions at the Washington Surgi Clinic.
Sadly, state and local health departments do not always have a good track record of regulating abortion facilities. The decrepit, unsanitary Philadelphia late-term abortion facility that was run by Kermit Gosnell went 18 years without an in-person inspection from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Health. This is despite the fact that 46 lawsuits were filed against Gosnell in a 32-year timespan. Furthermore, Karnamaya Mongar, a 41-year-old immigrant from Nepal, died after an abortion there in 2009. It was ultimately a drug raid that led to the closure of Gosnell’s facility. Hopefully, the complaint will spur the D.C. Department of Public Health to take appropriate action. Furthermore, Congress and the executive branch also have the ability to conduct oversight and investigate this late-term abortion facility.
