Loudon County Public School District in Virginia made national headlines in 2021 when its policies allowing male students in female bathrooms resulted in two sexual assault cases. Now, it has been uncovered that one of its schools maintains sex-segregated bathrooms for staff members but not students.
“This sends a mixed signal to everybody about the expectations of privacy,” a parent told the Daily Signal. “How do they have their own bathrooms if our own students don’t have their own bathrooms?”
In May 2025, the father noticed a sign on the staff bathroom door at the district’s Stone Bridge High School that said “males only” and took a picture. Daily Signal reports that as of this week, the sign remains on the door. The father sent another picture confirming that this week.
In March 2025, the school was embroiled in controversy yet again when a girl who says she is a boy entered the male locker room and filmed the students there without their consent. Three boys complained about her presence, and the school charged the boys with Title IX violations.
The district dropped the charges against one of the boys, a Muslim student, while keeping the charges against the two Christian students. This August, the district found the two students guilty of sexual harassment and sex-based discrimination, punishing them with a 10-day suspension.
The boys appealed the decision and the suspension was temporarily lifted. One of the boys moved out of state, but the Title IX charges remain on his record. His mother, Renae Smith, pointed out the hypocrisy of the school’s decision to the Daily Signal.
“[Loudon County Public Schools] gives male-only bathrooms to staff but brands my son a predator for wanting the same privacy,” she said. “They protect their own while destroying a teenager’s name for speaking up,” she added. “This is not equality — it’s hypocrisy, and it’s harming kids.”
This year, as CatholicVote previously reported, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights found that Loudoun County and four other Northern Virginia school districts’ transgender policies violate Title IX.
