United Airlines, which has struggled through a turbulent 2025 marked by widespread delays and cancelations, appears to have finally fixed its issues and is looking to reset its relationship with travelers. After a year of technical problems at its hub in Newark and a nationwide ground stop earlier this month, Knewz.com has learned that the airline announced a new partnership with Apple TV+ that will bring popular streaming shows to passengers for free.
United Airlines faces repeated operational issues

United Airlines faced repeated operational issues at Newark Liberty International Airport, where software malfunctions led to mass delays. The most disruptive breakdown came on August 6 when United grounded all flights across the country due to a technology malfunction. More than 1,000 flights were delayed, adding to a season of frustration for passengers and a mounting backlog of customer complaints. In the weeks since, United says it has stabilized its systems. Officials are working to assure travelers that the worst is over. The airline’s next move suggests it wants to shift the narrative from canceled flights to improved customer experience.
United Airlines partners with Apple TV+

United Airlines recently announced that full seasons of select Apple TV+ shows, including Severance, Shrinking, Ted Lasso, and Slow Horses, will be available for free across its in-flight entertainment platforms. The rollout covers the 130,000 seatback screens already in service as well as the United app, with more expansion planned. “Apple creates groundbreaking original series, and United travelers are going to love watching fan-favorite Apple Originals for free on their next flight,” said Mark Muren, United’s Managing Director of Product, Identity and Loyalty. “We’re setting a new standard for a premium inflight experience, and our first-of-its-kind collaboration with Apple TV+ gives fliers more high-quality content options on the latest high-definition seatback screens.”
United launches a significant upgrade to flight interiors

United Airlines announced that it will be rolling out seatback screens on every seat across its fleet as part of a broader cabin redesign. The new interior features 27-inch 4K OLED displays equipped with Bluetooth, marking a shift toward more high-tech in-flight entertainment. According to the airline, its deal with Apple TV+ aligns with a broader strategy to surpass 300,000 seatback screens as United adds new aircraft and upgrades existing planes in service.
The critical acclaim of Apple TV+

For Apple, the deal with United Airlines places its programming directly in front of millions of travelers. The streaming service secured 81 Emmy nominations this year, a record for the platform. Severance led all Apple shows with 27 nominations, while the new comedy The Studio starring Seth Rogen earned 23 including outstanding comedy series. In total, 14 Apple TV+ originals received nominations: Slow Horses, Shrinking, Presumed Innocent, The Gorge, Bad Sisters, Dope Thief, Disclaimer, Pachinko, Your Friends & Neighbors, Dark Matter, Deaf President Now! and Bono: Stories of Surrender.
