Former congressman Trey Gowdy ignited a heated debate in a Fox News segment when he suggested tighter gun control laws in the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Minnesota.
The Fox News host brought up “access to guns” as he discussed the tragedy with co-hosts Lisa Boothe and Emily Campagno after a gunman killed at least two students and injured 17 other people during an attack at Annunciation Roman Catholic church in Minneapolis.
“You want to track the shooter. You also want to track the access to the firearms,” Gowdy said on “Outnumbered.”
WTF? Fox News’ Trey Gowdy suggests GUN CONTROL after today’s tragedy in Minneapolis.
“How many school sho*tings before we’re going to have a conversation about keeping firearms out of…it’s always a young white male, almost always.”
Shameful.

“Where did the guns come from? Were they straw purchases? Did he go into a gun store? Was it a private sale? That’s all you can do now because there’s not going to be a trial. These parents… they want answers. Everyone wants to know why,” the former federal prosecutor continued.
“Nothing explains shooting at children. We could bring in the world’s foremost forensic psychiatrist. OK, he was troubled. He was bullied at school. Well, then, go do something to the people that bullied you. You picked on children,” Gowdy continued.
“So if we are waiting on a why, then we’re going to be unsatisfied. And where we direct our energies and our emotions is to the trial. And he deprived those parents of justice by taking his own life. They’ll never get the answers that they want,” he said, referring to the shooter, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman – born Robert Westman – who committed suicide by gunshot after the attack.
Campagno asked Gowdy if the criminal justice system was “equipped to even handle” cases such as this.
“You’ve seen, I feel like more than anyone has really encountered such tragic cases involving children during your career, and we’ve talked about the grief and the ripple effect of the parents and in the community, and in your role as prosecutor, and as the pieces are taken up by those members of the justice system, what now?” she asked.
Gowdy contended that the “system is reactive” and “what people are crying for now is how can we prevent this? How can we stop it?”
“And the only way to stop it is to identify the shooter ahead of time or keep the weapons out of their hands,” he said. “And so we’re going to have to have a conversation of freedom versus protecting children. I mean, how many school shootings does it take before we’re going to have a conversation about keeping firearms out? It’s always a young, white male. Almost always.”
“But do we not already have laws on the books? For these types of situations?” Boothe pressed.
“Like what?” Gowdy asked.
“Well, murder is what happened. And maybe the why is that you had a 10-year-old and an 8-year-old praying in the pews. Were they targeted for their faith?” she questioned.
Viewers were incensed with Gowdy’s take and expressed their anger on X, calling for him to be fired.
The trans killer in Philly was black. The trans killer in Nashville was a woman. WTF is Trey Gowdy going on about.

Trey Gowdy is on @FoxNews repeating the totally discredited lie that “most of the time” these mass shootings are “a young white male”
What an ignorant POS.
It’s a Catholic School, I can think of several other “groups” more likely to be suspected of this one. Fox is garbage…— -MAC- (@fedup_patriot) August 27, 2025
