ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Authorities have uncovered new details about a 15-year-old girl from Texas who was allegedly abducted and later discovered in southern New Mexico. The girl’s ordeal began when Kyle Eckman, 20, reportedly drove over five hours from San Antonio to West Texas to meet her, according to court records. After the meeting, Eckman is said to have refused to return her home, instead keeping her in his vehicle for two days.
The situation unfolded as Eckman traveled west, eventually drawing the attention of New Mexico State Police on I-10 near Deming. License plate readers proved crucial in locating Eckman’s vehicle, enabling officers to initiate a traffic stop. When officers engaged their lights and sirens, Eckman allegedly attempted to evade capture, making a sharp turn at high speed before crashing into a ditch. Fortunately, no serious injuries occurred in the incident.
Court documents reveal that Eckman allegedly brandished a firearm and threatened law enforcement officers during the confrontation, instructing the girl not to communicate with them. He now faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, child abuse, and aggravated assault on a peace officer.
Eckman made his initial court appearance on Monday, where he requested a court-appointed attorney. Investigators have reported that the girl claimed Eckman threatened to harm her and her family if she did not comply with his demands. It is believed that social media played a role in their initial meeting.
Currently, Eckman remains in custody at the Luna County Detention Center. He has not yet been extradited to Texas. The girl, meanwhile, is expected to reunite with her family soon.
The case underscores the growing concerns about the role of social media in such incidents, prompting a closer look at online interactions among young people. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
