The Democratic National Committee tried to rally morale on Wednesday at its Minneapolis meeting with a sing-along “fight song,” but the stunt quickly sparked ridicule online as the party reels from internal feuds and financial woes.
On the final day of the DNC’s summer meeting, a leader of the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue “shared a ‘fight song’ that the party could adopt, putting its lyrics on screens so that the crowds could sing along,” Semafor reported late Wednesday.
“D-E-M-S, we rise!” the lyrics read. “Stronger together—blue skies! / Lift your voice, we’re bold and true, / Onward, Democrats—we shine blue!”

The gimmick quickly prompted mockery from social media commenters. “Major cringe,” one X user wrote, while another quipped, “My God, midterms are going to be a cakewalk.”
The sing-along comes as the DNC has been embroiled for months in financial troubles and bitter infighting. A Politico report earlier this month found that the DNC “wildly trails” its Republican counterpart by nearly all fundraising metrics, as donors view the Democratic Party as “rudderless, off message and leaderless.”
“By the end of June, the RNC had $80 million on hand, compared to $15 million for the DNC,” Politico reported. The fundraising gap has only widened since then, with the DNC reportedly having less cash this summer than at any point in the past five years.
Many Democrats, meanwhile, have become increasingly frustrated with the leadership of DNC chairman Ken Martin, who presided over Wednesday’s meeting. In June, one DNC member called Martin “weak and whiny,” while another said the chairman has been “invisible.” The committee ousted former vice chair David Hogg in June, after Martin blasted Hogg’s $20 million scheme to fund primary challenges against “ineffective, asleep-at-the-wheel” Democratic incumbents. The turmoil escalated when two of the party’s most influential labor leaders quit their DNC posts, citing the party’s direction under Martin.
The DNC decided to end its meeting early following a mass shooting just minutes away at Annunciation Catholic School. Robin Westman, a 22-year-old biological man who identified as transgender, opened fire at the school’s church, killing 2 children and injuring 17 others before taking his own life.
