PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – A devastating crash in Prince George’s County has left a young child without a mother, following a tragic collision involving teenagers in a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Highway and Sheriff Road.
Heart-wrenching surveillance footage reveals the moments leading up to and following the crash that claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman. A witness, Swenson Boalla, described hearing a loud crash while working at a nearby gas station. “I saw smoke rising, and then the fire,” he recalled, as emergency responders swiftly arrived at the chaotic scene.
Police reports indicate that a license plate reader identified the stolen car traveling on MLK Junior Highway shortly after 4 p.m. Officers began to follow the vehicle but were instructed to halt their pursuit. The department emphasized that they maintain a safe distance and do not engage in high-speed chases for stolen vehicles.
Shocking details emerged that the occupants of the stolen car were four teenage boys, aged 15 to 17. The crash occurred on what was the first day of school, prompting Prince George’s County Executive Ayesha Bravoy to express her concerns. “Incidents like this highlight the troubling choices some young people are making,” she stated.
As the community grapples with this tragedy, there is growing concern over the dangers of driving on this busy stretch of road. “This road is notoriously hazardous,” one local resident remarked, echoing the sentiments of many who regularly navigate the area.
All four teenagers involved in the crash have been taken into custody, along with another teen found in a separate stolen vehicle nearby. The charges they will face remain unclear, but local leaders stress the importance of accountability for young offenders.
This incident bears a haunting resemblance to a similar crash in March, less than a mile away in Landover. In that case, 34-year-old Patricia Riddick was killed, and her child was injured following a brief police pursuit on MLK Highway. The suspect in that incident also fled from police before crashing.
As investigations continue, the community mourns another life lost and calls for increased safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
