Domestic violence can escalate to unthinkable levels of cruelty.
One Florida woman crossed a line that shocked even seasoned investigators.
And a Florida wife gave her husband one wake-up call that ended his life in the most horrific way possible.
A calculated attack that defied human decency
What happened in a New Port Richey home on August 21 wasn’t a crime of passion – it was a premeditated act of torture that ended in murder.
Chuanying He, 50, waited until her husband was at his most vulnerable moment, sound asleep in their shared bed.
Then she poured sulfuric acid over his body.
The victim’s screams for help echoed through the house as He barricaded the bedroom door, trapping him inside with his burns.
She then called 911 to report what she had done.
When New Port Richey police officers arrived at the home on Slippery Rock Road around 5:01 p.m., they found a horrific scene.
The victim was trapped in the bedroom, suffering from severe chemical burns over most of his body.
Officers had to remove wood and metal barriers that He had placed against the door to prevent her husband from escaping.
The victim fought for his life but couldn’t overcome the attack
Emergency responders airlifted the unnamed victim to Tampa General Hospital for life-saving surgery.
For days, he fought to survive the devastating injuries inflicted by someone who was supposed to love and protect him.
But the chemical burns were too severe.
The victim died late Sunday morning, turning this case from attempted murder into first-degree murder.
According to investigators, He confessed to deputies that she had tried to kill her husband several times before the acid attack.
“Evidence gathered during the investigation indicates the act was premeditated,” the New Port Richey Police Department stated in their press release.¹
Detective David Crowell revealed that police had been called to the residence “numerous times for verbal domestic” disputes, though no previous arrests had been made.²
The timing reveals the calculated nature of this murder
Court records revealed a crucial detail about the timing of this horrific attack.
He and her husband had filed for divorce in March, and they were scheduled for a divorce hearing the day after the attack.³
This wasn’t a spontaneous act of violence.
It was a calculated decision to destroy her husband rather than let him leave the marriage alive.
The pattern was already there, with multiple police calls for domestic disputes.
But He escalated from verbal arguments to attempted murder to actual murder in the most brutal way imaginable.
The fact that she called 911 after the attack shows this wasn’t about hiding her crime – it was about ensuring her husband suffered as much as possible before dying.
She wanted him to be found, wanted first responders to see what she had done.
That level of calculated cruelty goes beyond ordinary domestic violence into the realm of torture.
Law enforcement did everything they could to save this man’s life, but some injuries are simply too severe to survive.
Now He faces first-degree murder charges and aggravated battery causing serious bodily injury.
The New Port Richey Police Department has assured the public that this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
But for the victim’s family and friends, the nightmare of knowing how he died will never end.
He could have chosen divorce, separation, or any number of legal options to end their marriage.
But she chose torture and murder.
