By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,
About 800,000 seniors in Oregon may qualify for a federal senior deduction under President Donald Trump’s so-called Big, Beautiful Bill. The senior deduction phases out federal taxes on Social Security income for many recipients, depending on their retirement income, with 88 percent of all seniors owing nothing in federal taxes, an increase from 64 percent or 14.2 million seniors nationally. A new senior tax deduction added to the standard deduction would be $23,750 for individuals and $46,700 for couples filing jointly in 2026.
