Reports indicate that two children were killed and 17 individuals were injured in a shooting on Wednesday at Annunciation Church, which was holding mass for the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In a Wednesday post on Facebook, the Richfield Police Department announced, “Police are responding to an active shooter call. Officers are reporting 20 victims. A man dressed in all black and armed with a rifle was reported at the scene.”
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara told reporters that two children, ages eight and 10, were killed, 14 children were injured, and three other individuals were injured during the school shooting at the Catholic church.

O’Hara told reporters that the suspect, who was armed with a pistol, a rifle, and a shotgun, shot through the windows as the children were praying.
“This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshipping,” O’Hara said. “The sheer cruelty and cowardice, firing into a church full of children, is absolutely incomprehensible.”
The police chief also told reporters that the “coward” who fired the shots that killed two children and injured 17 other people “ultimately took his own life in the rear of the church.”
Fox News reported that Children’s Minnesota Hospital confirmed that six children were receiving medical treatment following the shooting.
At roughly 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the City of Minneapolis tweeted, “There is an active police situation at Annunciation Church, 509 W. 54th St. There is no active threat to the community at this time. The shooter is contained. Stay away from the area to allow emergency personnel to help victims – W. 54th Street between Lyndale and Nicollet Ave.”
In a Wednesday morning statement on Truth Social, President Donald Trump wrote, “I have been fully briefed on the tragic shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The FBI quickly responded and they are on the scene. The White House will continue to monitor this terrible situation. Please join me in praying for everyone involved!”
Additionally, Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) confirmed that he had been briefed on the Catholic school shooting and that law enforcement officials remained at the scene of the shooting. Walz added, “I’m praying for our kids and teachers whose first week of school was marred by this horrific act of violence.”
