The Sisters of Life have launched a new website offering support and resources for women considering abortions, women whose children have an adverse prenatal diagnosis, and women seeking healing after an abortion.
The website is named the Vis Center, for the Latin word for force or power.
“As women, we know that real power is unleashed when we feel listened to,” the website states.
The Sisters of Life offer to spiritually and emotionally accompany women throughout their pregnancies, and connect women with resources such as legal advice, housing, and medical assistance. They also provide opportunities for healing for women who have already had an abortion.
“As Sisters of Life, we care about you, the whole you — body, mind, and soul,” the vision statement reads. “That’s why we offer a holistic approach to pregnancy, because we know that before being a medical issue, it’s a spiritual issue — it’s an issue of the heart. We believe that a woman should be empowered to move in freedom, not in fear, and that’s why we stand in solidarity with every woman who is pregnant.”
The Sisters are a religious order that, in addition to the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience, takes a fourth vow of protecting and enhancing the sacredness of human life. They offer free and confidential help to pregnant and post-abortive women in the United States, Canada, and internationally. Their convents in New York, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Canada offer in-person support.
The website includes instructions for reaching the Sisters through text or a phone call.
“After many plans and expectations, an unanticipated pregnancy can seem like life is over,” the website states. “Especially if it seems like no one but that little voice deep in your heart hopes there is a possibility for making this work. Well, what if that little voice is right? What if this pregnancy isn’t the worst thing possible? What if everything will again be all right, and even better than all right? The Vis Center is here to help you unfold the beautiful promise that lies hidden in the unexpected: your greatest self, waiting to emerge.”
