The infamous Burning Man festival announced that a dust storm had hit the Nevada desert location and destroyed its “Orgy Dome.”
High winds in the Black Rock City desert reportedly “wrecked” the structure, as the organizers of the Burning Man festival reported on the official Instagram page for the “Orgy Dome,” which was launched in 2003.
“Run by a sex-positive collective, it offers festivalgoers a climate-controlled space outfitted with mattresses, couches, and pillows, where participants are expected to enter with a consenting partner,” the San Francisco Chronicle describes the structure.

“Our build team worked so hard this past week to *erect* our lovely space,” the Instagram post from Monday read, accompanied by a video of the destroyed attraction.
“Unfortunately, the winds yesterday undid all that labor and wrecked our structure. We are still here and thankfully safe, we hope to gift the playa some workshops and will keep you updated @burningman #burningman #burningman2025,” the post stated.
“Dust storms with gusts up to 50 mph tore through the Nevada desert, injuring at least four people, toppling campsites and destroying art installations, including Black Cloud, an inflatable sculpture by a Ukrainian team,” the Chronicle reported on last weekend’s violent weather. “The storms left thousands facing hours-long delays at the gates, with new lightning warnings on Monday raising concerns of further closures.”
Bad weather has plagued the annual festival, which kicked off on Sunday, August 24, and runs through Monday, September 1.
While the event and the demise of the “Orgy Dome” prompted some sympathetic responses, there seemed to be a general theme in the reactions on social media.
“That’s Jesus Christ saving people from std’s,” one Instagram user wrote.
“The wind is doing the lord’s work,” another user commented, and one added, “Jesus said, ‘NOT TODAY YOU HEATHENS!’”
Over on X, the reactions concurred.
