A Florida man has been arrested after horrifying surveillance footage allegedly showed him attacking a sleeping child, putting the boy into a chokehold and suspending him in the air while he struggled to breathe.
According to court records reviewed by Law&Crime, 27-year-old Dominic Fisher was taken into custody on Tuesday and charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse. Authorities say the attack was caught on a hidden camera inside the child’s bedroom in a Lee County home.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno called the case one of the most disturbing he has ever seen. “This video is beyond disturbing,” Marceno said in a statement. “I’m disgusted by this low-life and his senseless act against an innocent sleeping child. We will do everything we can to ensure this man faces the harshest penalties possible.”
The sheriff’s office released a 29-second clip of the alleged attack, describing it as “chilling.” In the footage, a man identified as Fisher walks into the bedroom while the child sleeps, grabs him around the neck, and places him in a chokehold for several seconds. Investigators say the video shows Fisher lifting the boy off the bed, holding him in the air as the child flails his legs in obvious distress.
According to a probable cause affidavit, deputies responded to the home on August 26 after receiving a call about possible child abuse. A woman, believed to be the victim’s mother, told investigators she installed a hidden camera in her son’s room after he had made vague complaints about “not liking” Fisher.
When she reviewed the footage, she discovered the alleged attack and immediately contacted authorities. Investigators observed bruising around the child’s neck consistent with what was seen on the video.
The affidavit also includes disturbing statements from the child, who reportedly told investigators that the night before, Fisher entered his room and kicked him in the stomach and punched him in the neck while he slept, adding that “he does this often.” The child’s sibling corroborated the account, according to authorities.
Detectives obtained a warrant to seize the surveillance camera and footage as evidence. When questioned, Fisher invoked his right to remain silent and declined to provide a statement.
Based on the surveillance footage, physical injuries, and corroborating witness statements, detectives determined there was sufficient probable cause to arrest Fisher. He remains in custody and faces two felony counts of aggravated child abuse.
