As drones become more common across global conflicts, U.S. military units continue to seek reliable ways to detect and defeat them. At this year’s AFA Warfare Symposium, DroneShield presented several portable and vehicle-mounted systems designed to meet that challenge.
Matt McCrann, CEO of DroneShield US, explained how the company’s technology supports operators at the tactical edge.
“We provide detection and defeat capabilities tailored to specific missions,” McCrann said. “These handheld systems offer situational awareness and defense in remote or mobile environments.”
How does the DroneShield work?
DroneShield’s RF Patrol system uses passive radio frequency monitoring to identify drone signals without showing the operator’s location.
“This device detects and classifies signals in the area without being detected,” McCrann said. “It helps identify rogue or adversary drones and prepares users to respond.”
Once a threat is identified, operators can deploy the DroneGun Mk4, a rifle-style jammer designed for ease of use.
“It’s a point-and-shoot system with up to one kilometer of range,” McCrann said. “It’s familiar to tactical operators and highly accurate.”
The company also introduced the Sentry-X Mk2, a mobile monitoring system designed for vehicles, unmanned platforms, and marine vessels.
“This system mounts to commercial and military vehicles,” McCrann said. “It provides 360-degree situational awareness and detects threats up to 10 kilometers away.”
DroneShield publishes conservative range estimates to protect operational details, but McCrann emphasized the system’s effectiveness in real-world conditions.
“We’re careful about what we disclose,” he said. “But the system performs well and adapts to mission needs.”
Despite its capabilities, the Sentry-X Mk2 remains lightweight and easy to deploy.
“One or two people can install it without heavy equipment,” McCrann said. “It transitions from mobile to stationary use and supports rapid deployment.”
How will the DroneShield help in the field?
The system’s flexibility allows operators to shift between vehicle-mounted and fixed-site configurations, depending on mission requirements.
“This adaptability makes it ideal for expeditionary teams,” McCrann said. “It moves with the mission and supports operators wherever they go.”
DroneShield’s modular systems reflect a growing demand for scalable counter-UAS technology. By including detection, jamming and mobility, these tools offer a comprehensive solution for modern threats.
The Sentry-X Mk2 and DroneGun Mk4 demonstrate how defense technology continues to evolve alongside battlefield challenges. Their versatility and ease of use make them valuable assets for military teams operating in dynamic environments.
