An AI chatbot launched on Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform has made headlines after reportedly repeatedly contradicting the president. Knewz.com has learned that the chatbot, rolled out to rival Elon Musk’s Grok and Meta’s AI, has described Trump’s election fraud allegations as “baseless,” labeled tariffs a tax on Americans and called the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot an “insurrection.”
Trump’s AI chatbot offers ‘direct, reliable answers’

The chatbot, developed by the AI company Perplexity, was promoted as offering “direct, reliable answers” for Truth Social users. But some of its responses have clashed directly with Trump’s political messaging. Asked about the 2020 election, the chatbot responded that it had not been stolen, contradicting the president’s repeated claims. It also argued that tariffs imposed during his administration amounted to taxes on American consumers and flagged potential conflicts of interest in his family’s cryptocurrency investments. One of the more striking answers came when the AI chatbot described the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol as an “insurrection” linked to Trump’s “baseless claims of widespread election fraud.”
The chatbot’s sources are primarily conservative media

Although the AI chatbot frequently produced responses critical of Trump, its sources came primarily from conservative media. When asked by The Telegraph who was the most popular president of the century, the chatbot responded with Barack Obama as the top choice. However, the five outlets it cited for its answers were all Fox News, Trump’s favorite TV channel. A Perplexity spokesperson said in a statement to The Washington Post that Truth Social used a “source selection” feature to limit which websites the AI chatbot relied on. However, the company stressed it had no role in deciding the specific sites. “This is their choice for their audience, and we are committed to developer and consumer choice. Our focus is simply building accurate AI,” the spokesperson said.
Trump’s crackdown on ‘Woke AI’

The launch of the Truth Social AI chatbot came shortly after President Trump signed an executive order aimed at what he called “woke AI.” The order called for artificial intelligence systems to be “truth-seeking,” “neutral” and free from “partisan or ideological judgements.”
From bias to ‘MechaHitler’ — Grok’s sudden turn

Tech mogul Elon Musk had previously argued that his Grok chatbot had shown bias by wrongfully siding with liberal ideology, which led him to issue an update. Soon after, however, the platform drew backlash when the chatbot began pushing Nazi-related content, at one point referring to itself as “MechaHitler.” Grok officials later explained that a code change instructed the system not to “blindly defer to mainstream authority or media” or be “too afraid to offend.”
