President Donald Trump has appointed Dan Scavino, his longest-serving aide, to head the White House Presidential Personnel Office, giving him authority over staffing decisions across the administration.
The move follows the departure of Sergio Gor, the previous officeholder, who was nominated to serve as U.S. ambassador to India.
Scavino has been a fixture in Trump’s orbit since 2015, beginning as Director of Social Media during the first presidential campaign, according to The Gateway Pundit.
Before entering politics, he worked for more than a decade at Trump National Golf Club Westchester, ultimately rising to executive vice president.
Within the Trump administration, Scavino served as White House Director of Social Media and later as Senior Advisor for Digital Strategy from 2019 to 2021.
In the current administration, he holds the role of White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications, giving him influence over both messaging and internal operations.
Bloomberg reports that Scavino has remained a steadfast ally of Trump through some of the most turbulent periods of recent history.
Scavino has remained a close and loyal ally of President Trump through some of the most challenging periods of recent history, including both impeachment proceedings and the events surrounding Jan. 6.
He also played an active role in advising Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign, reinforcing his position as a trusted figure within the administration.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt praised Scavino’s appointment.
“Dan Scavino is one of President Trump’s most trusted and longest serving advisors,” she said. “There is nobody better to ensure the president’s administration is staffed with the most qualified, competent, and America First-driven workers.”
“There is much still to be done and Dan’s leadership will ensure the highest quality, most dedicated workforce ever.”
The appointment has drawn support from MAGA activists, who see Scavino as a protector of the administration’s staffing priorities.
Analysts note that his long tenure and close relationship with Trump give him substantial influence over personnel decisions, ensuring that positions are filled by individuals aligned with the “America First” agenda.
His proximity to the Oval Office positions him as a pivotal figure in shaping the administration’s internal structure, according to Trending Politics.
Gor, who previously led the office, was known for enforcing a strict social media policy for hiring decisions.
While this approach earned him favor with Trump, it also drew criticism, including from Elon Musk, who accused Gor of affecting a NASA nomination for a Musk-affiliated candidate.
Some Trump supporters had hoped conservative activist Laura Loomer might assume the role.
She called the position an “honor” if offered, but White House officials reportedly questioned whether her combative style would be suitable for daily operations in the Presidential Personnel Office.
The Presidential Personnel Office is responsible for vetting, recruiting and appointing qualified individuals to roles across the administration.
Scavino’s promotion ensures continuity in this process and reinforces Trump’s practice of closely monitoring staff alignment with his agenda.
Observers say his expanded authority will allow him to shape not only the personnel but the overall direction of the administration’s operations, maintaining loyalty and efficiency at the highest levels.
