The Trump administration is moving to halt development on a massive Biden-era offshore wind farm off the coast of Maryland, according to a court filing.
The Department of the Interior (DOI) is seeking to withdraw federal approval for the Maryland Offshore Wind Project, according to a filing submitted by Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday. The DOI also issued a work stop order for a giant offshore wind farm off the coast of Connecticut on Friday as the Trump administration continues to crack down on intermittent energy resources that the Biden administration favored.
“Interior intends to move to voluntarily remand and vacate its approval of the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) for the Maryland Offshore Wind Project,” the filing reads.

The Maryland Offshore Wind project was approved under former President Joe Biden in July 2024 and was set to construct up to 114 wind turbines, according to the DOI. The agency has recently unleashed several blows to the wind industry, halting Revolution Wind in federal waters off the coast of Connecticut, moving to cancel the Lava Ridge Wind Project, and ending “preferential treatment” for what it termed “unreliable” and “foreign-controlled” wind energy technology.
While the Biden administration pushed for green energy resources, the Trump administration has moved to boost more conventional electricity sources and reversed federal support for wind and solar. Billions in subsidies, loans, and grants went to wind and solar companies under Biden while layers of red tape were added for the coal, oil, and gas industries, with Biden declaring he would “shut down” coal plants “all across America.”
“America has subsidized expensive, intermittent, and hazardous wind projects for over 30 years,” DOI Secretary Doug Burgum wrote Sunday. “Under President Donald Trump, we are investing in RELIABLE energy sources that actually support our electrical grid!”
Trump signed a July 7 executive order directing the DOI to “revise any identified regulations, guidance, policies, and practices as appropriate and consistent with applicable law to eliminate any such preferences for wind and solar facilities.” Trump campaigned against Biden’s energy policies and continues to rail against what he’s dubbed the “green new scam,” writing Wednesday on Truth Social that “any State that has built and relied on WINDMILLS and SOLAR for power are seeing RECORD BREAKING INCREASES IN ELECTRICITY AND ENERGY COSTS. THE SCAM OF THE CENTURY! We will not approve wind or farmer destroying Solar. The days of stupidity are over in the USA!!! MAGA.”
Maryland announced it was eligible to receive almost $5 million in federal funding to grow its offshore wind industry under Biden and has moved to develop multiple offshore wind farms, though several of the pending projects have already been cancelled.
The DOI did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
