Chicago’s mayor made even soft-on-crime policies look downright totalitarian in his latest rant against the president’s pushback on lawlessness.
“It is racist! It is immoral! It is unholy!”
Efforts to restore law and order found the nation’s capital reaching nearly two weeks without a murder in a streak unprecedented in the era of cashless bail and routine recidivism. Now, as President Donald Trump seeks to expand his crackdown beyond Washington, D.C., with his sights set on the Windy City, Mayor Brandon Johnson (D) took a stand against punishing criminals, which found conservatives clamoring for the left to embrace that message for the 2026 midterms.
Speaking at a press conference Monday with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth, along with other Democratic Party figures, Hizzoner argued against seeing the National Guard deployed in Chicago, “We can not incarcerate our way out of violence. We’ve already tried that. And we’ve ended up with the largest prison population in the world without solving the problems of crime and violence.”
“The addiction on jails and incarceration in this country — we have moved past that,” insisted Johnson. “It is racist! It is immoral! It is unholy! And it is not the way to drive violence down!”

Before referring to Trump’s actions as a costly publicity stunt while arguing the federal money was needed to provide services in the city, the first-term executive also said, “As the mayor of this city, I can tell you that Chicagoans are not calling for military occupation. They are calling for the same thing that we’ve been calling for for some time. And that’s investment. What safe cities across America all have in common — they invest in people, and that’s what we’re doing in Chicago.”
Prior to the presser, the president touted the success of his actions in the nation’s capital, including temporarily taking federal control of the Metropolitan Police Department, as he torched Johnson and wrote, “The incompetent Mayor of Chicago just stated that, in DC, where crime has been brought down to almost nothing, there have been no murders in 9 days, something which hasn’t happened in years, and people are safe again, only nine people have been arrested. That is wrong, hundreds of criminals have been held, captured, and arrested, and their guns have been taken away. DC IS SAFE AND BOOMING!!!”
Additionally, the White House released a fact sheet on Chicago that stated for 13 consecutive years it had the most murders of any U.S. city while having a 2024 murder rate three times higher than Los Angeles, five times higher than New York City, and 15 times higher than Delhi, India.
On the heels of remarks that suggested activists in Chicago would riot in response to efforts to crack down on crime, Johnson said, “the people of this city are accustomed to rising up against tyranny.” The mayor’s apparent favor for wasting taxpayer money on anything but directly confronting criminality was viewed as a gift to the GOP tied up with a bow.
Oh yes, this is going to be great…for Republicans

Locking up criminals does not stop them from committing crimes

The Dems cannot sink their approval rating any lower.

Clearly, a winning message. The race to single digit approval percentage continues.

They are out of their minds. I just don’t get how a single person votes for a democrat at this point. They want our cities filled with anarchy and chaos.

They never learn
Or they don’t want to learn
Whichever!
Both work for me!— SusyKool (@sianetta) August 25, 2025
It’s a winning message for certain. They should print bumper stickers and T-shirts.
