There’s no shortage of reasons California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom shouldn’t be anywhere near the driver’s seat of America’s future. Under his watch, California has become a cautionary tale and an example of how NOT to run a state: $73 billion in deficits, a mass exodus of businesses, tent cities lining the streets, handouts to illegal aliens, sky-high taxes, energy blackouts, ineffective wildfire management, and crime so rampant that shoplifting feels like a state-sponsored hobby.
Add in COVID hypocrisy, disastrous education policies, and his obsession with regulation over results, and it’s clear Newsom isn’t steering California toward safety and prosperity – he’s running it off a cliff. And now he wants to take that model nationwide? Hard pass.
Although Newsom pretended he was going to be more moderate and understanding when launching his podcast in early March – interviewing conservatives and saying he wanted to reach out to MAGA – he’s since revealed himself as a fraud, showing himself to be the incessant, immature, Trump- hating progressive zealot we always knew that he was.
If Newsom thinks what he’s doing is a good audition for the Oval Office, someone should tell him his stage is on fire. He doesn’t even seem to care that businesses are ditching his state.
Instead of focusing on California’s crumbling economy, Newsom is too busy posting immature things on social media including taking a potshot at Bed Bath & Beyond after they announced they wouldn’t be opening any new stores in the state. Their statement says, “This decision isn’t about politics – it’s about reality. California has created one of the most overregulated, expensive, and risky environments for businesses in America. It’s a system that makes it harder to employ people, harder to keep doors open, and harder to deliver value to customers.”
Newsom’s snarky response was as follows: “After their bankruptcy and closure of every store, like most Americans, we thought Bed, Bath & Beyond no longer existed. We wish them well in their efforts to become relevant again as they try to open a 2nd store.”
This isn’t leadership; it’s performance art. California has a $73 billion deficit, sky-high gas prices, and streets lined with boarded-up storefronts, but Newsom’s solution is to scold a company that already declared itself bankrupt. Maybe if he spent half as much time helping businesses as he does curating his slick hair and Patagonia vests, California wouldn’t be hemorrhaging residents to states that don’t require a second mortgage to buy groceries.
