SAN ANTONIO, TX – Authorities are investigating a shooting in South Bexar County after a woman was found with a gunshot wound to the head near I-37 and Southton Road. Deputies arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. and discovered the woman inside a truck with the windshield wipers and lights still on. A firearm was also located inside the vehicle.
The sheriff indicated that the incident might not have originated at the location where the woman was found. Initial reports suggest that a 35-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man, who reportedly have a romantic relationship, were involved in an argument while collecting scrap metal. Witnesses mentioned hearing gunshots during the altercation.
The man is currently being questioned as a person of interest. Although he is detained, he has not been officially labeled a suspect. Authorities are working to determine if anyone witnessed the shooting or saw the man pull the trigger.
Deputies remain on the scene, searching the wooded area nearby, where they found disassembled billboards and other metal objects. Investigators believe part of the argument may have taken place in this area and are trying to establish the exact location of the crime scene.
A woman, possibly a witness, was seen being handcuffed and detained at the scene. The sheriff is urging residents in the vicinity to check any surveillance or doorbell cameras for footage around the time of the shooting to aid in the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities are uncertain if charges will be filed. The latest update on the victim indicates she is undergoing surgery, with hopes for her recovery.
