I know you’ve heard about FAKE News. But did you know there are FAKE bills, too?
Representative Frank Burns (D-72) just filed a bill to amend PA’s Constitution to pass Constitutional Carry. It sounds good, but just like kabuki theater, it’s totally FAKE.
You see, back in May, Rep. Burns voted against a procedural motion that would have allowed REAL Constitutional Carry to come up for a vote on the House floor–and he’s been feeling the heat from his constituents ever since.
In a desperate attempt to distract people and hide his bad vote, Burns filed his FAKE Constitutional Carry bill on Friday. Not only is this move a total CYA by Burns, but amending the PA Constitution is unnecessary and a VERY bad idea.
Here’s why:
- We already have the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms enshrined in the PA Constitution (Article 1, Section 21 and Article 1, Section 25).
- A constitutional amendment for Constitutional Carry would be a long, complicated process, taking years and would be subject to a statewide referendum. Do you want anti-gun Philadelphia Democrats voting on your God-given rights?
- A constitutional amendment would allow legislators to wash their hands of the process and would give them cover if the amendment fails at the ballot box. This could PERMANENTLY destroy any chances of Constitutional Carry passing in the future.
The problem is NOT the Constitution, it’s PA’s unconstitutional license to carry law that must be repealed, just like 29 other states have done.
And while Frank Burns attempts to fool his constituents with his FAKE bill, the REAL Constitutional Carry bill, HB 454 (Bernstine), continues to languish in the House.
That’s why I need you to send a message to your state representative by using the form above. Urge them to reject Rep. Burns’ FAKE Constitutional Carry bill and to support HB 454, REAL Constitutional Carry.
