Donald Trump Jr. sparked controversy Thursday by referring to progressive strongholds like Seattle and Portland as “craphole cities,” a jab, he clarified, not at the residents but at the Democratic leaders who, he said, allowed crime, drugs, and homelessness to spiral out of control.
Appearing on Newsmax’s Carl Higbie FRONTLINE, Trump Jr. argued that even in deep-blue Washington, DC, residents are quietly welcoming President Trump’s federal crime crackdown. He suggested the same approach should be rolled out in other progressive-run cities struggling with public safety.
“93 percent [of DC] is hardened leftist. But they’re like, ‘No, this is great. I feel safe. This is a wonderful thing. Let’s do this,’” he said. “Maybe we should roll out the tour to Portland, Seattle, you know, the other what we call craphole cities of the country, not because they’re crap holes, but because Democrats made them so.”
Trump Jr. pointed to candid street interviews in Washington, DC, suggesting even left-leaning residents have welcomed the unprecedented deployment of federal agents and National Guard troops. The operation, overseen by the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, has already seen over 1,000 people arrested. Authorities have also seized dozens of firearms and large quantities of narcotics.
Local officials, including the city’s mayor and attorney general, have sued to stop the crackdown, insisting crime rates were already under control. Civil rights groups have argued that immigrant communities are being unfairly targeted. Trump Jr. dismissed those complaints as “demonstrably false.” During the interview, Trump Jr. accused Democratic leaders of “fudging the numbers” on crime while residents face rising carjackings, shootings, and drug-related violence.
He even floated the idea of a federal takeover of local police forces in the Pacific Northwest and other Democratic-controlled cities. “Everyone’s getting carjacked and murdered,” Trump Jr. claimed. “The Democrats are just changing their methodology for crime statistics. People know what’s really happening on the streets.”
